Yeah i will probably bring some spare as well. Should I change in SG or at HCM airport?

This question keep coming up....sigh.

If you have zero VND, change a bit like 300k in airport, just for cab fare. From airport to BT area (D1), it cost about 160K. When reach there then change at the gold shops. If you have VND enough for cab, then just change at gold shops near BT mkt.

That's why I also bring back few million dong after each trip. I always change extra. For me bcos I likely go back once or twice a year to visit my in laws.

hotels that i have stayed always quote their rates in usd. when you ask for dong, they will usually mark up a little.

so, when in vietnam, it is wise to ask for prices in both usd and dong, and decide for youself.

Sorry still quite confused.

It is better to change USD to DONG? Or SGD to Dong. At hanoi airport

Thnks

a basic rule when travelling is that never exchange at airport except for the amount of fare to get out of the airport.

in hanoi, you better bring some usd notes with you. check the rates quoted, use a calculator and decide for yourself. it is not easy to find places that give reasonable rates for sgd in hanoi unlike in the south.

22450 / 1.41 is around 15900, so 15500 is not bad.

foreigners with residency rights are allowed to open bank accounts.

someone reported he could get 15500 dong for 1sgd in singapore. if you can find that rate, then get some dongs first. you can save time after you land in noi bai, and it is important to have dongs with you if you arrive after hours or during the weekend when banks are closed.

yes, go to the money exchangers here and get usd. the folks in the south are the more enterprising lot so sgd is widely welcomed there. in the north and central, you get lousy rates for sgd and possibly difficulty with exchanging sgd to dong.

so, take usd and sgd with you and some dong too!
