Cafes and markets? All in usd? I read that I would get ripped off if I paid in usd.
Yup, payment in vnd if possible ...
for cab in airport, pay in usd is better than in vnd ....

Get a cab from the airport as its safer, licensed and easier. Cant imagine u dragging yr luggage and a 2yo in HCM crazy traffic looking for a cab.
Print a copy of hotel address and hotel map and show cab driver as they dont speak English.
those going to hcm :
take note of the following:
hotels usually have many branches.
for example,
hotel Flower1 , Hotel Flower2, Hotel Flower3
just have to make sure you are staying at the correct hotel![]()
If you get from the airport, they would still go out and flag the cab for you.
is as good as you walking to get a cab.
the distance between the airport exit and the cab area is only less than 25 steps away only ...
Most hcm people dont speak or understand english.
is better to print out your hotel address in their language ...
Have you ever been to Vietnam? Or only read on the Internet? Or you mean Cambodia instead?I dont bother to change any Viet Dong as most of the shops in HCM display item price in USD and not Dong.

I have seen NO places at all in HCMC that display prices in USD (always in VND).
Likewise, I have also seen NO places in Singapore that display prices in USD (always in SGD).
Cab area? Are u talking about those cab counters located just outside the airport exit doors?
If yes, then I usually use them.
Can print hotel address in their language but how do we know we are printing the accurate address since we dont speak Vietnamese. Thats where the hotel map helps. I will highlight a prominent building eg. Ben Thanh market and then my hotel location on the map. This gives the driver some idea where my hotel is.
A hotel map really helps the cab driver vs a hotel address as HCM has so many new boutique hotels sprouting. Unless ur staying at those 5 star hotels like Hyatt, Pullman.. then dont need to print map. (But I will still print cos Im Kiasu)

actually, I heard that it could be illegal to display prices in USD, and even if you may display prices in USD sometimes, you MUST always accept payments in VND ONLY, that is the law, you ought to report them to police if they ask you to pay in USDQuite true. I've never seen any prices in USD. But then, i seldom go to D1.
................1. Change USD and ask for small notes to pay taxi fare. Only villages take Vietnam Dong. Cities take USD. Hotel and high end shops take credit cards. Rest take cash - USD.
2. YES
Watch your bag for pickpockets
hotel industry can accept USD... some tour agency also.. that's for the convenience of tourist la... u can absolutely pay in vnd.. they just multiple the USD with online daily vnd exchange rate.actually, I heard that it could be illegal to display prices in USD, and even if you may display prices in USD sometimes, you MUST always accept payments in VND ONLY, that is the law, you ought to report them to police if they ask you to pay in USD
