Dear all,

I am going Hanoi during mid-May! Planning to go Sapa and Halong Bay. Will be going alone! I did some research and I am thinking of spending 3d2n in Sapa, and 2d1n in Halong Bay junkboat cruise. Just a rough idea of the time frame I have planned:

Not sure if I am able to go Sapa first followed by Halong Bay.. Rough plan so far:

Arrival 21 May 3.40pm at Hanoi - take overnight train to Sapa
22 - 24 May - Sapa, take overnight train back to Hanoi, arrival on 24 May morning
24 May - Explore old quarters, walk around Hanoi
25-26 May - Halong Bay cruise, arrive back in Hanoi on 26th May afternoon
27th May - Depart from Hanoi (Flight ETD @ 1.10pm)


Would be great if I could get some advices and recommendations from you guys? Thank you!

Feasible. Make sure you can get the overnight train tickets.

Thank you for your reply! Will do. Can I just check, should I just go DIY at Sapa (get train tickets myself, go there to book local tour directly), or should I request for the hotel to help me?

I am thinking if booking both Sapa and Halong Bay through the hotel as I think it would be much easier.

how do you intend to get train tickets yourself? i have checked vietnam railways online booking a few times and i find sleeper trains are hard to book.

You better get yourself sorted out before you reach there, since you aim to get to Sapa the same night you arrive in Hanoi. Getting to Sapa involves a bus ride in addition to the train ride to Lao Cai. http://www.seat61.com/Vietnam.htm

looks like you got good budget for 5* hotel..

caravelle is like Singapore pan pacific hotel.. near the shopping mall and town. near nyugen hue.

Pullman is like our continental hotel. near bugis, alots of affortable food and drink and things to see..

hey thanks man, decided to go for Pullman.

going on a business trip, but should be free at night.

first time in Vietnam and HCM. any recommendations around the hotel for sightsee and food? not booking together with breakfast.

you come out of pullman u see a saloon full with viet bu liao haha

haha was in cab before, few saloons in d1 have gals standing around the big window of the saloon lined up ... guess they are providing "extra services"
