Actually I am impressed with construction speed for road works and overhead bridge for bikes .. they finished it within a reasonable timeframe and they are even working on weekends

Not too sure for buildings for now...

Sent from OnePlus ONEPLUS A3010 using GAGT

Its all about the engineering. But from what we see, major construction are all done by foreign companies like Japanese or Korean firms.

Hi guys, will be going to Vietnam with my friends for holiday at the end of the year. Is it possible to cover both Hanoi and HCM in 7 days?

First time going there, be there mostly for food and sights.

Yes, can! Just nice actually. Assuming domestic flight between Hanoi and HCM. Suggested itinerary below. Things in brackets are suggested activities that are extremely value for money in Vietnam.

Day 1: Land in Hanoi. Explore Hanoi old quarters. [tailor a suit?]
Day 2: Ha Long Bay. Overnight in Ha Long Bay.
Day 3: Ha Long Bay. Come back from Ha Long Bay. [check/try on the suit and ask for alterations if necessary] Watch a water puppet show.
Day 4: [pick up suit.] Fly to HCMC. Check out HCMC markets.
Day 5: Explore HCMC. [eat atas french fine dining]
Day 6: Cu Chi Tunnel and Mekong Delta combined day trip. There are actually two different cu chi sites that are located near each other. The Ben Dinh site is for tourists, and the Ben Duoc site is for locals. The tunnels in Ben Dinh have been made wider so that americans can fit in them...so you don't get a sense of how truly claustrophobic the tunnels were. Unfortunately, that's the default site for most day trips as it is 20mins nearer to HCMC compared to Ben Duoc. If you want the real deal, you must specify Ben Duoc to your guide.
Day 7: Fly back.

Wow, thanks for the itinerary, will use it as a guide. Though I have to ask, what's with the tailoring of suit, is it really cheap to do one there? Never thought about making a suit there :s13:

Planning to spend one whole day doing a tour of mekong delta. Probably will squeeze the tunnels on the day before. For overnight Ha Long Bay, do you mean stay overnight on a boat/cruise? Are there any you recommend?

Ya, just like their MRT system, mostly Japs and koreans, it is likely almost fully funded by foreign countries.

But a pity to skip Sapa and Ninh Binh. 7 days very rush. At Hanoi/Halong/Sapa/Ninh Binh, we used 9 days already, fully explore north.

Dont bother making a suit if u are not in Hoi An.
HCMC and Hanoi not well known for making suits.

Not easy. Hanoi more things to see though with Sapa and Ha Long Bay.
HCMC.. u probably wont have time to travel to Dalat, NhaTrang, Muine.

Suggest u spend 7 days indepth in either place only.

In Hoi An, alot jack up their prices too. Most shops just a front, and they outsource to the same few factory to tailor.

I tailored my suit in hanoi at less than half the price of what three Singapore tailors quoted me. In terms of worksmanship and cloth quality, I was quite satisfied. I did some research beforehand so I knew what I wanted and where I wanted to tailor my suit at (i.e. https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Attraction_Review-g293924-d4178732-Reviews-Bambou_Silk-Hanoi.html).

Sadly, no recommendations for boat/cruise. Until today, I don't know if I got a good deal or if I overpaid... But regardless, Halong Bay is worth a night. Unforgettable sunrise and sunset.

As you only have 7 days, I suggested combining cu chi tunnels and mekong delta. Spending one whole day at the Mekong and squeezing cu chi tunnels the day before means you have less time to cover the war remnants museum, reunification palace, ben thanh market in HCMC, which isn't ideal.

Also, Vietnam, as a former french colony, has very value for money french fine dining. Like all fine dining experiences, this can't be rushed. I recommend this for lunch (https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Rest...d1953023-Reviews-Ty_Coz-Ho_Chi_Minh_City.html) and this for dinner (https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Rest...Villa_French_Restaurant-Ho_Chi_Minh_City.html). Reservations recommended for both. Reserve early for the second one.
