Do they use usd more common than their own currency?

No. But in district 1, they will be more pleased to receive USD.
I've so far only use vnd there.

they will always quote you in usd. you can ask for vnd but they will convert from usd to vnd using their own rates. you will be at their mercy

think. when you ask to pay in vnd, they convert from usd to vnd and you convert from sgd to vnd. is double conversion a wise thing?

there is nothing much in saigon that justifies you staying for up to 9 days, unless you are really into pubs, massage and women

dalat and nha trang are popular, but will be packed during that time of the year. last christmas eve, futa bus alone had departures to dalat every 10-15 minutes!

if i were you, i would head south and explore the mekong delta. food is cheap and good and people are honest. a good cultural experience too as it is the melting pot of viet, cambodian, malay and chinese.

Da Lat, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang are much better places to spend then Saigon. I use it as jump off point only - nothing really is in that city warranting staying for more than one night.

Trip has been cut short to 7days Since it's my first time going to vietnam, I don't want to rush it. Yup 2 days mekong delta tour is included in my itinerary

Thanks for the recommendation. I want to spend some good days exploring HCM first before venturing to other cities. I will definitely go to those places for my 2nd or 3rd trip in future

imho, 2 days in saigon is better.

oh, you are into celebrations and crowds. my friends usually go to downtown saigon d1 and nguyen hue boulevard area. if i were you i would go to hanoi
