bros,

anyone have recommendations for a 2d1n cruise to HaLong Bay? is it also recommended to book online since I'm able to save up on a night of hotel rather than booking when i touch down

I'll be heading to hanoi for 5d4n and planned for a 2d1n cruise to HLB and 2d1n at Ninh Binh. Is this feasible?

Thanks for the help!!
Going alone or with SO or friends? If alone, can try take the cheaper no frill 6 hrs day cruise at HLB which means you need to make your way straight to HLB area after landing in hanoi and stay for a night at hotel there.

Ninh Binh needs 2 full days to do justice, and this is if you have convenient wheels to visit the flung-out places. You may want to select one of the 2, as much of either has to do with limestone karst cliffs. Do you have time for Hanoi?

I booked through Classy Travel for HLB, you can enquire with them. They have Ninh Binh day tour too. Btw, Trang An and Tam Coc aremore beautiful than HLB, so you might want to consider these instead give your limited time since HLB is v far, like 3 hours each way from Hanoi. What time does your flight land and depart?

ahh. okay i'll consider these two places. was thinking i shouldn't give HLB a miss since i'm there already haha. i'll be arriving at 12pm. and leaving at 645pm on the last day. Thanks for the help!

I landed around same time as you and left early afternoon on day 5. My HLB was day tour and another day mua caves + trang an day tour by another coy, madame linh. Hanoi itself quite boring but food is decent and cheap.

Probably individual preference bah.

Hanoi is much slower compared to Hcmc...
I like to slowly explore the small streets of Old quarters which has over 100 years of history.

Beer is extremely cheap in old quarter drinking street.
5000 VND

If you like shisha... Hanoi IMO offers better shisha than hcmc.

Food preparation is different in Hanoi compared to hcmc.

Not forgetting the four seasons of Hanoi ^.^ simply love Hanoi during January... Wake up at 6am in the morning... Walk to one of the small alleys next to my hotel, wearing a wind breaker.. sit down at a small table next to an old wall with traces of algae and call out to the old auntie, standing behind the pho stall a couple of tables away...
As she acknowledges your order..Her hands are working non-stop while she bracing the cold morning weather making my order of a hot bowl of Pho Bo...

As she brings my pho... The cold air kinda condenses the aroma and immediately shot up to my brain, giving me a "CHAO BUOI SANG!"

Next, I dip the metal spoon into the hot soup and took a sip...
"Ahhhhhhh....", Followed quickly with a slurp of Pho....

Heavenly....

if you are an adventurous person,

1. marble mountain cave complex halfway between Da Nang and Hoi An.

2. My Son archaeological site. 35km from Hoi An. good if you have a bike. the journey there itself is pretty interesting, explore the villages, markets and churches along the way.

3. Tam Ky, 45km from Hoi An. laid back town. visit the wartime tunnel. chill out at the fishing village famous for wall paintings.

4. relax at Hoi An. visit the veg farms, old street, trading houses and chinese association buildings. eat noodles and drink coffee :)

Huh? Da Nang and Hoi An are 2 different towns, about 30km apart. You should probably spend maybe 1 full day and night in Da Nang, and spend the rest of it in Hoi An. Da Nang has nice beaches, a huge temple with a giant Kuan Yin, and the dragon bridge that spews water and fire every night (check time with hotel staff).

Hoi An is a nice place to chill, eat and drink. Very pleasant but touristy.

My Son is a set of ruins, most of which are undergoing restoration. In itself, it isn't much to look at. If you've never seen ancient ruins, it could be interesting. But if you've seen complete ancient temples at Angkor Wat, Prambanan, Bagan, etc, then My Son is pretty unimpressive in comparison.
