Hi guys I need some advice here. I want to book a one way flight back to Singapore from HCM via Jetstar but the currency is in donge, any way for me to pay in SGD? Or do I have to pay in dong through credit card?

Your cc would be charged in VND.
Then the bank would convert the VND to SGD.
You would pay in SGD when making your cc payments....

if want cheap shopping, you will need a local vietnamese to bring you to the local heartlands

without someone who speaks vietnamese, its very difficult for you. vietnamese people will just turn away if they can't speak or understand english.

my experience of having a local is BAD!

especially at Ben Thanh market...
mind you, if your vietnamese friend help to bargain, some nasty stall will tell your friend "you are vietnamese why no help own people" (to slaughter you of course)

if you want your viet friend to get a good price, stay away from your friend, out of sight of the stall.... let your friend know and let him/her go help you get it alone. Dont open you mouth to speak any other language beside your friend. Best dont even show your face. The viet rather got kill wrong NO let go if they sense any foreigner around.

Anyone has experience with Vietnam air and transit?

for vietnam domestic flight, vietnam air should be the first choice if you want to have lower chance of delayed flight or met with horrible viet.

somehow maybe vietnam air is a bit "atas" but you can always get good price if book early, 30kg luggage inclusive. But the local usually go for vietjet or jetstar. So vietnam air experience is much better, ... more orderly and better behave viet (middle class vs farmer :s13:). They use Airbus A321 which is slightly bigger than the usual A320 (Coach vs public bus :s13:). And the cabin is clean and bright always.

Thought of flying vietnam air from sg to hcm but so far unable to get a nice price.

I'm talking about local heartlands, not Cho ben thanh.
If It is at Ben thanh, I don't even need a local VN, I can do the haggling by myself

I always prefer to fly SQ to hcm, since their price are decent, $188 to $208
They using bigger aircraft a330 ...

SQ a330 have 30 business, 255 econ seats
Econ: Pitch is 32", width is 19"

Vietnam airline a321, have 16 business + 162 econ seats
Econ: Pitch is 32", width is 18"

Jetstar Scoot a320, have 180 econ seats
Econ: Pitch is 29", width is 17.9"

normally most people would stay at ben thanh area ...

In the morning is more of market, selling fruits, souvenirs ...
Evening time, some zi char would open ...
Some stalls would be selling clothings, shoes, luggages, etc
Need to bargain with them ...

If you want a good price, you don't even shop at Ben Thanh. Go to cho binh tay, the chinatown. Or any other local markets.
But if you want to bargain at Ben Thanh, well, the price is easily 3x the usual. But then, their stalls rental are also expensive.

District 1 Ben Thanh is where tourists hang around. For me, i prefer to stay in Pham Ngu Lao, also known as back packers street. There is a walking street, and i like to take a walk among the clubbing joints before i sleep for the night. The walking street is called Bui Vien.

Ben Thanh market area is the Tourist area.

Every city will have certain designated areas for tourist

Just like
Bangkok is Pratunam area
Bali is Seminyak
Phuket is patong
Penang is George Town

Never once have I said that Ben thanh is bad for tourist.
No.
You just need to be careful and be wary that's all
There are vendors who are all out to scam tourists. And then there are vendors who are very honest and very fair.

And the initial question was asking about "cheap shopping".
being a frequent visitor to Hcmc myself due to work, I will get help from my local business partners if I wanna buy certain things and avoid being charged higher, just because I am a FT
