300 SGD for 8pax seafood... It depends on what you ordered actually...

Vung tau is typically a tourist town...so naturally expensive.

the really cheap local VN food and seafood must have a few local VN bring you all largely due to comm problem

As for Korean food.... You went to Lotte Mart? Or you go to little Korea?

Conclusion:

It’s true.. HCMC is kinda boring.. Maybe BKK had set the benchmark, hence we are expecting something similar, if not, close.

Food wise, don’t really enjoy their local food. Still prefer Saigon JB, the portion and serving is still better.

Its hot and warm.. easily 36 degree.. Best to go during Dec period, was told the day time temperature range around 21 degree..

try their local shoe wash, its pretty good, only paid 20K per pair, the end result is as good as new. Should have brought all my shoes for a good revive.

Don’t bother to walk.. take grab.. unless you really adventurous like us.. their 10 mins walk is pretty a distance..

Communication, its poor.. most of them don’t speak/understand English. Best to equip a translator app.

Things are expensive, we bought SGD1k and cards. No chance to use cards.. I think the reserve still got around SGD 500?

Gold and jewellery, imagine those gold shops with 10 years back design.. nothing special..

Branded goods, don’t bother.. its equally expensive.. not a place for shopping..

Supermarket mainly are selling Korean stuff, was told lots of Korean came and make Vietnam their home.

Gals, I guess it will be fun if my wife is not with me.. lots of eye candy and potential..

Bubble tea were cheap, tried the Alley, pretty good. Koi was half of SG is selling..

Wow, many thanks for your detailed sharing :s12:

Can't imagine we're escaping to another hot and humid place. Half sianz.

well, dont let me influence you.

maybe our threshold of heat is poor as we usually stay in air con environment..

nonetheless, vietnam is emerging but they need to sort out many issues such as traffic and pollution.

its quite an experience if you yet to visit HCMC

Along outside one of the shops I think they selling lots of Nike, Adidas, Jordan's, all sort of brands tees.. I believe there are slight rejected one.. Cause the quality is same as authentic one.. Totally different quality from selling outside... Luggauge and backpack are dirt cheap.. $6 only.. Northface N deuter..

Whether it's the day or night market at Ben Thanh.. MUST bargain with them

Most of the stalls at the night market are owned by the same people in the day market and the nearby "Malaysia street"

Weather wise.... It will get even hotter in another two weeks time. Very normal to hit 38 or 40 degrees In the day

It's a mix of counterfeit and rejects.

There is only a handful of stalls in Ben Thanh area which sells authentic rejects.

Must really go inside and look look see see

The rate is around 1.7 mil vnd for $100. If you can get similar here, then change here. If not, change a bit at the tsn airport, then change at the local gold shops.
count your money carefully at the airport.

Your friend been there for 10 years.... Maybe... lolx

Even my local business partner also bring me to those expensive local VN restaurants. Even though it's not so tasty...

Probably more for "face" and don't wan you to think that you are only worthy of eating at shabby places

Actually can... But due to their country culture, if they have overseas guests visiting Usually they will bring their guests to nice places.

I am sure they already discussed where to bring you, including the skybar, that's why the wife "dressed to kill"

Those type of "sit down on the floor" or "sit down along the roadside eat hotpot/steamboat" are usually meant for their own family members or close friends or neighbours.

If you visit Saigon a few more times... I won't be surprised your friend and his wife will invite you to have meals with them in such manners

Please check which stalls sell QC rejects (if it's even available) of branded clothing eg Nike, UA, Adidas, & how much to expect. I don't want to end up paying same price for fake/pirated goods. Thank you.
