even though Henabi bro say it's normal, but for me i would still think it's a bit sketchy. Been to Hanoi and booked via Airbnb before so didn't face such issue.
Airbnb would be different

But he mentioned thru booking.com... these type of established 3rdparty hotel/accommodation booking sites will state very clearly in their t&c that the accommodation provider reserves the right to get security deposits.

Some luxury hotels I stayed collect deposit... Some don't

hmm i went to dalat and booked via booking.com also never faced such issue leh... but i seldom book hotel, maybe i don't know about the majority of such establishments, just didn't meet any of those.

only got some pay partial/full cost of the stay is yes. but not security deposit amount higher than the hotel stay. from what i know, some also ofc hold ur credit card details in the case of extra charges.

seriously in t&c? haven't use booking.com but so far never encounter that before with agoda.
i would expect booking sites to act as middle party when it involves money matter.

i would cancel & look for another

Expedia... Hotel.com... Agoda...
These websites don't collect security deposits on behalf of the accommodations. Neither do they represent these accommodation companies to say yes or no to security deposits

Their primary role, similar to travel agents, are to fill up the hotel rooms... They don't deal or play a role in the SOP of individual hotel/accommodation

Agoda does not handle or mediate security deposits, but accommodation providers can still set a deposit policy of your own. They'll need to clearly state their policy and deposit amount in the property description as well as house rules to avoid any confusion.

yes i understand about security deposit that's collected during check-in. but if i understand correctly, they have whatsapp TS asking for prepayment, meaning TS have not even check-in.

what's not clear is if they are reminding TS about deposit upon check-in or actually requesting TS to make prepayment prior to check-in. if latter, i felt that's something fishy

Hi, sorry noob question as going to vietnam for the first time..

Will be taking a night flight to ho chih minh airport and then switching to domestic flight to nha trang the next morning. Checking if it is possible to remain in the transit area till the next morning or do i have to clear immigration and exit the international terminal before going to the domestic terminal and clearing immigration 1 more time?

Looked at the airport map and it seems like the only linked pathway is in the public area..

Appreciate some helpful replies, thanks!

why not just buy vietnam sim card each time? the price is pretty cheap mah. some things no need to save.

anyway, if i am not wrong, there is a data plan under viettel that gives u data at a flat fee for 1 year. so that keeps your plan active for 1 year i guess.

found it:
https://vietteltelecom.vn/di-dong/chi-tiet-goi-cuoc/280

u gotta top up and use sms send message "D500" to the number 191.
This is good stuff..

The international airport and domestic airport are not linked. They are 150m apart. So if you stay in the international airport, eventually you still have to clear immigration and come out to walk to domestic airport. Bros, correct me if I'm wrong on this.
The international airport inside have only few food options, and nothing fun to stay inside. I would suggest you come out and have a meal outside. There are domino pizza, McDonald's, Starbucks and some other food options in the international airport, and opposite domestic airport. Don't expect the airport to be like Changi. Nothing much to do there.
If you have a few hours to spare, take a cab outside and have a massage or movie.

yes international and domestic are separated, i don't think they are linked from the transit area, have to come out.

airport damn boring lah, is just a place for u to sit and relax. nearby got parkson plaza, but i'm not sure if it's walkable distance. usually i just have at most 2 hours at airport so i will just sit around and wait for time to pass.

Paid le, no issues with airport to and fro hotel even if i put my sg no that is unusable in hanoi.

But hotel recep called them and say if no show, will cancel. Dunnoe if will have refund or not. Im nw at novotel halong bay hotel and 1st thing i do once reach is to request for them to confirm with operator next day to pick me up.
