i thought those living in vietnam can buy landed properties with land lease up to 50years (renewable). but not sure how they define "living in vietnam" though

foreigner cannot buy landed properties in vietnam unless you have a vietnamese wife

Please beware of the taxi scam:
Especially those that would stop at the ben thanh market to call you to get a ride ... their price would suddenly jump from 50k to 200k then 300k etc ...

Crystal jade will cost easily 1m vnd.. of course, it depends on what you ordered, and the portion.
I went to buy ya kun kaya toast. a set with toast and 1 egg costs 95k. Almost $6! More expensive that singapore!
For mobile data, you can buy at the airport. Around 6usd for 5gb data. For me, i used non tourist prepaid sim, everyday 7k vnd for 1.2gb of 4G data.
It is quite safe to walk around, so long you don't use phones by the roadside or flaunt your wealth. Vietnamese are generally nice people, with some being black sheeps who do snatch theft or charge exorbitant prices.
Grab is very commonly used there. Last few days there was a promotion. A bike ride cost only 10k vnd. they're trying to fight new competitions.

If want huge data for tethering then go for vinaphone.

And then get another basic Viettel sim card for grab booking and phone calls.

There are many such restaurants in royal city, parkson and Lotte Mall.

MCD is very rare in Vietnam.
Lotteria and KFC more common.

The main streets of Hanoi is very safe. But.....
Just don't use your mobile phones along the streets.
And don't venture into dark streets if you are unsure
And as usual... Don't stay out too late

Just go with GRAB or use the taxi booking app from Vinasun or Mai Linh

Or
Ask the hotel reception to assist with booking

For taxi scam, it's not limited to cho Ben thanh area. It's littered all over. Usually I will only take such taxis with a local and I will let them do the talking with the driver.

just like in taipei, just waive your hand, within a couple of minutes, someone would be there to fetch you ...

been to hcmc 6times, in the past, all their people are very honest ...
all go by meter, no detour ...
my recent this year, encountered twice, the driver went detoured ...
28k by grab, becomes 54k by meter ...
somemore is not even at my hotel
have to ask him to stop nearby hotel, then walk 3 minutes back ...

For taxi drivers... That's the problem

Because they cannot use GPS so it's not easy to get a driver who really knows every single small place

A few years ago when there's no grab and uber in vn...I will keep contacts of a few regular taxi drivers who really know their way around hcmc and hanoi
A few days before I go over for biz trip... I will text them and book them for a few days.

But usually they will give
500K first, then 200K, and then 100K
