date to vietnam change from sept 19 to 23.. so roughly how much sing dollars to bring ah? $200 enough if i wanna buy some clothes or shoes?

that'll depend on what kind of clothes and shoes are we talking about here..genuine premium nike shoes would easily blow your S$200 dollars away...and so will genuine branded goods..

just back from HCM....yes, Phoenix 74 is a motel along Bui Vien Street and together with Pham Ngu lao street and surrounding areas....its formed the the backpackers paradise....
i was charged for USD13 for a single room that comes with ac, window, own private bathroom/toilet...and provided breakfast too...;-)...they charged me USD10 for airport pick up but on returns was only USD7!
i booked the room directly with the hotel just 2 days before my departure..they only ask for my name and flight arrival timing...and they didn't even ask for my credit card guaranteed or contact number etc.....and they promptly turned up at the airport to pick me up...! and best, no deposit was required and i only settled full payment upon checking out!!!
while the furniture are old, the bedsheet and bathroom are very clean! and i didn't even turn on the aircon as the fan provided was very cooling and refreshing....

a good place to stay if you are on low budget travel!!! of cos, i won't recommend it for honeymooners...or bringing your newly known gf for holiday...

yes, its enough....

for meals at nice and small eatery with air-con restaurants....
beef noodle soup....its range from 20000 vnd to 35000 vnd --> approx SGD2 - 3.50
softdrink --> around 7000 - 12000

for shopping and cheap stuff, don't buy from Ban Thanh Market! their mark-up are very high and their best price are still higher than the prices at china town area(known as cholon).

you can take bus no 1 from the bus-intercharge that is facing the Ban Thanh Marktet and alight at the bus-interchange at cholon! it costs only 3000 VND (ie. $0.30)...you can't really bargin there as prices are more of less fixed! but i can safely said that the prices there are very reasonable and beat the best price in Ban Thanh Market!!!

things worth buying are sport shoes, backpacker bags, coffee powders, clothings etc...

what is there to do in vietnam ah seriously

well if you visit any pubs, most don't have cover charge....and it costs around

40000 - 60000 vnd (ie. approx $4-$6) for draft beer and 60000 - 75000 vnd for cocktail drink...of cos softdrink was even cheaper...

you can also try out their massage......most offer decent and proper massage for an hour for around 80,000 vnd ($8) and expected to give tip of 50,000 vnd --> total around $13!!

a more up-market spa may charge around 350000-500000 vnd for 2 hours package!

I really wouldn't suggest a first timer to take a local bus for their trip to cholon.. and unlike city central where you can easily get around and converse and ask for direction, Cholon is not so "street friendly". ;)

The Binh Tay Market in Cholon is similar to Ben Thanh Market but the prices are alot cheaper!

most of their locals shop there while the tourists will shop at Ben Thanh Market and being charged more!

i find it safe to go cholon and take the public bus there...! come on, its from one interchange to another interchange..you can't really get lost there......and even so, you can still find elderly people able to speak a bit of mandarin or even approach other foreigners who visit there too for direction guide...

if u actually calculate the costs of your purchase and taking a cab back..it doesn;t really count much of a difference..and thats just an experience from my customer's feedback :) afterall it's pretty troublesome to be holding large plastic bags and boarding a local bus (which is no where near the standard of a Singapore bus) :o:o
