what is there to do in vietnam ah seriously
hey guys! just saw this thread.. got something to ask u all...
date to vietnam change from sept 19 to 23.. so roughly how much sing dollars to bring ah? $200 enough if i wanna buy some clothes or shoes?
that'll depend on what kind of clothes and shoes are we talking about here..genuine premium nike shoes would easily blow your S$200 dollars away...and so will genuine branded goods..
hmmm what about those type of warehouse goods? or those factory rejects?
hi all,
mi just back from vietnam. over all, a nice trip. hotel and makan wise.
BUT!!! if u r visiting there. please kindly becareful of their taxi drivers. oh man...
after i exit the airport, they ask mi pay a toll charge of donno how much. cos they help themself to my wallet.and when the meter started to run SO fast, they say they r going to give mi a "SPECIAL RATE"... before i can say anything, he off the meter liaoz..
OMG.. THATS 200000vnd...
and when i reach, i gave him 500000vnd. he only return mi 100000vnd.. after collecting my bags. and i asked for my another 200000vnd, he looks at mi blankly and reluctenly return the change.
and worse, when i reached the hotel, i looked at the 3 pieces of money he returned. i asked the hotel stuff, and she told mi the paper vnd he returned is no longer in use liaoz. only the plastic ones r the new currency.... she told mi we can enchange in at the near by bank....
omg..........
just becareful when u r there.
other then that, its a wonderful trip after all...
I going Ho Chi Min City with my school on 22 to 26 Sept, is S$200 to bring there enough? What kind of stuff is nice and cheap to get from there?![]()
what is there to do in vietnam ah seriously
yes, its enough....
for meals at nice and small eatery with air-con restaurants....
beef noodle soup....its range from 20000 vnd to 35000 vnd --> approx SGD2 - 3.50
softdrink --> around 7000 - 12000
for shopping and cheap stuff, don't buy from Ban Thanh Market! their mark-up are very high and their best price are still higher than the prices at china town area(known as cholon).
you can take bus no 1 from the bus-intercharge that is facing the Ban Thanh Marktet and alight at the bus-interchange at cholon! it costs only 3000 VND (ie. $0.30)...you can't really bargin there as prices are more of less fixed! but i can safely said that the prices there are very reasonable and beat the best price in Ban Thanh Market!!!
things worth buying are sport shoes, backpacker bags, coffee powders, clothings etc...
well if you visit any pubs, most don't have cover charge....and it costs around
40000 - 60000 vnd (ie. approx $4-$6) for draft beer and 60000 - 75000 vnd for cocktail drink...of cos softdrink was even cheaper...
you can also try out their massage......most offer decent and proper massage for an hour for around 80,000 vnd ($8) and expected to give tip of 50,000 vnd --> total around $13!!
a more up-market spa may charge around 350000-500000 vnd for 2 hours package!

I really wouldn't suggest a first timer to take a local bus for their trip to cholon.. and unlike city central where you can easily get around and converse and ask for direction, Cholon is not so "street friendly".![]()
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholon
The Binh Tay Market in Cholon is similar to Ben Thanh Market but the prices are alot cheaper!
most of their locals shop there while the tourists will shop at Ben Thanh Market and being charged more!
i find it safe to go cholon and take the public bus there...! come on, its from one interchange to another interchange..you can't really get lost there......and even so, you can still find elderly people able to speak a bit of mandarin or even approach other foreigners who visit there too for direction guide...

anyone knows about the chinatown wholesale market at cholon? are things cheap there? what do they sell huh?
