I agree with Louis.

For a first timer, it is definitely difficult to communicate. heck. I couldn't even find a top up card location the first time round!

For noobs in almost any country, expect to change your name to "Robert" and be prepared to be taken for a ride. It can't be helped. Subsequently, you will be more the wiser and know your way around the land.

Sometimes, it also pays to be eat humble pie, and learn to take hardship. If your other half cannot take hardship and i put much emphasise on this, then be prepared to double your spending, at the minimum. If you go out with someone who has been corrupted by money, expect your spending to quadruple, at the minimum. I've seen this happen countless of times. :p

Women who can take a bit of hardship but expect some creature comforts, min US$25 hotel.
Women who cannot take hardship and expect something modern, US$60 min
I think for the men, they can survive on budget motels. $10 & up.

Oh, and if one is shopping, do drop by Andong Plaza. Its the equivalent of Pratunam Mall

HCMC is a hot place. Wear thinner clothes. ;)
And oh yes, do be prepared for a culture shock, especially for the women. :p

PS: Louis_Vu, are you from HCMC or Hanoi? I usually spend my time in HCMC area.

Pay more attention. LOL.

For those already "si guan" or oblivious to their surroundings, its normal
For those freshies out of the country, it'll be one... :p

mah linh is better. i stick to that.... the white top and bottom green taxis....got cherry QQ somemore! cute :o

as for prepaid card, get vinaphone or mobiphone or viettel coz their network and bandwidth are the best. top up is everywhere... u can see those small mama shops displaying it.

oh, 1 more thing. hcm pavement is meant for parking of motocycles, not for people to walk :o most of the time, have to walk roadside.

I'm going to Vietnam on 28th July and coming back on 5th Aug, my itinerary is as follows:

28th July-- Fly to Hcm, fly to Danang, take taxi to Hoi An, stay the night, tailor made my clothes
29th July-- Walk ard Hoi An town, maybe go to Cua Dai Beaches, collect suits, then stay for the night
30th July-- Check out in the morning and head to Nha Trang, maybe on an open bus, relax and do a bit of snorkelling, stay for the night
31st July-- Island hop, go for spa, relax by the beaches again, stay for the night
1st Aug-- Find my way to Dalat, Walk ard in the town, shop ard, stay for the night
2nd Aug-- Join Open tour ard Dalat and visit waterfall etc, stay for the night
3rd Aug-- Join Open tour again and leave Dalat on an overnight bus to HCM
4th Aug-- Chill and maybe visit Dai Nam, Stay for the night
5th Aug-- Fly back to S'pore

I've not been to Nha Trang before, so is wondering whether traveling there by overtrain or by morning bus is better. And also is 2 days enough for Nha Trang?

Does anyone knows when is the last bus leaving from Dalat to HCM? I took one at 9pm before and reached ard 4+am in HCM, but would like to leave later and arrive at HCM at a not so inconvenient timing.

Did anyone visited Dai Nam before? Heard from some Vietnamese that Dai Nam need 4-5 days to finish exploring it, wonder if that's true.

If anyone is in HCM on 4th Aug or 5th Aug maybe you would like to meet up for coffee or something.

Hi I will be spending all my days in HCMC, probably will visit Chu Chi Tunnel, Mekong, and see if I can venture to other Districts too. I'm staying Bu Vien street there. how about you?
