opps. must be the location map on the app sala.
Thanks for your advice.
Yeah i wanted to take the bus from airport to ben thah market but i ended up booking return taxi for 30SGD from expedia.
i read that most peeps here take the cabs so i better do the same.

How about the tours? book online or go there then book?
I'm keen in the Cao Dai Temple, Cu Chi Tunnels.
Then the standard areas around Ben Thanh market, the saigon theatre, art museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon Central Post Office...
i can walk for the nearby but the far away stuff i need to book.
Went to https://www.thesinhtourist.vn/ but it seems i can't book for 'open' tours. and the price really so cheap ma? viator is like 20x more.

***UPDATE: i have booked 2 tours with thesinhtourist.
but reading this review, i am scared. www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserRevi..._Tours-Ho_Chi_Minh_City.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT

i went to watch utube videos. i learned something. pronunciation only: Xin cao, toi la <insertname>, rat wok durk lam guam voi bark.
xin cao annh - hi to a male
xin cao chi - hi to a female
xin cao emm - hi to a kid
forgot elder is what.
oh and the guy teaching was a UK guy.

thanks again!

SGD30? You kanna con. Cab there so many and so cheap why book here. Take MaiLinh or Vinasun. Round trip at most S$20 nia. Nearby BT area you can walk or take public bus. Far away attractions then book day tour.

not a bad idea to have car pickup since it's your first time in vietnam and unfamiliar with the place. i think there is a public bus to chu chi. my stay in the south is usually brief, so you have to research for more info. do join a tour but not the cheapest ones as i have heard horror stories from people returning from such trips.

i can tell you more on central and north if you are heading there too.

anh means older brother, chi means older sister just like in chinese, em is for someone younger male or female, when addressing someone vietnamese don't usually use pronouns like i or you, they use roles and ranks. and if you go to cho lon, you can speak cantonese too :)

actually i feel safer in HCM than JB :s13:
just the jaywalking part requires some initial getting used to.

there are plenty of fakes Sinh Cafe, i think you should be fine if you book from their website.

If u stay around cho ben thanh, getting to/from airport easily with Bus 152 (5000 vnd). if you got big luggage, you may be asked for addition 5000 vnd

Bus 13 goes to cu chi (7000 vnd), never try so can't comment further. but it's better you take tour with sinh cafe for cao dai + cu chi. i took their tour, and they brought to cao dai just before their noon mass ~ interesting culture. afternoon will be cu chi tunnels.

Agree, Vietnam is definitely much safer than Malaysia...no nonsense country. Malaysia's politicians no eyes to see....sigh.

Hi guys,
I booked a trip to HCM.
Read through many threads randomly.
But still have queries, hope u guys can help.
Sincafe the website has tours but some has minimum pax. How? Cannot book those I'm keen in.
Should I go there to book or book online from viator?
Has anyone taken local buses to sites near airport like reunification palace which is near the airport?

Solo traveller and female. I'm terrified but I guess I'll wear really ugly to avoid being noticed....

What are your travelling dates? :) I am going there on my own as well 30 Dec to 5 Jan.

Hey thanks for the warning about the fake Sinh cafe.
Yes, i booked for the Cao Dai & Cu Chi!!
I don't want to take the Mekong as i read many reviews that the coconut factory is just a hard sale place.

I read that Bus 1 goes from Ben Thanh bus station to Cholon (Chinatown)
Takes about twenty minutes so that will be done.

@koala2004 :I wanted to take bus but first time there, better use the expedia. not that gungho..

yes i do bring my mobile as i keep all the street maps & trip information for referencing from time to time, as i usually like to venture into small alley / roads.

i follow simple rules to keep it safe
- keep in separate pouch in my day pack (double protection! :D)
- stay away from street side or crowded area when i need to use
- always keep into bag once i'm done

I bought Sony Xperia M4 Aqua (3G, not LTE) just for travel purpose for couple of reasons:

- I need to be able to available over my SIN number in case of emergencies from my office, plus I need internet access via local data SIM
- I really do not feel comfortable travel around with office issued iPhone 6.

A good nondescript phone is the Moto G. All day battery life along with decent screen and performance.

Can I find out if the money changers at HCM airport (inside the transit area, before immigration) change small notes such as SGD$10 notes, as will transit in HCM airport for 3 hours only, thus do not want to be stuck with too much VND currency,

Or will the makan places in HCM airport (inside transit area) accept credit card payments?

cannot remember tan son nhat explicitly, but it's a common practice in international airports in vietnam to price in usd airside. they might accept other foreign currencies. using credit card is better for your case.

sgd 50 notes and above are usually preferred at money exchangers, and they quote you lower rates for sgd 10 notes.

You can't really do much at airport alone with 3 hours, so why change VND? There is also nothing much at TSN airport....pretty small and boring.

For free & easy travellers, try this free map app called MAPS.ME....really good. It's based on GPS alone, so no data required or any Telco service required. After install app, go download country you required and off you go. It'll real time track your location anywhere.

at tan son nhat now. all prices in usd. they take other major currencies too but give lousy rates. sgd is at slightly above 14000 dong. there is no gold shop inside this airport!

saw credit card terminals too. good luck!

The accept SGD and USD but for SGD they will give you USD change.
