if your primary usage is free to air and don't mind the slight extra electric bill, get the SD Plasma

electrical bill can never cover the extra cost for LCD/LEDbacklit LCD onez...

so it's cheaper and better to go for Plasma, especially for bigger size...

I am consider between the 55 and 47 inch models of LG LE5500. Was wondering if 55 inch is too big for my living room. I measured viewing distance from sofa to current 32 inch tv at 4.2m. Should I get 47 inches instead?

You should also specify if it is SD or HD, but it is more than enough even for a 60".

I assure you the week after buying the 55" it will look too small....

was deciding between

LG 50PK550 FHD plasma and LG 50PJ350 HD plasma

viewing distance would be 3m / 10 feet

should i just get 50PJ350 since i dont see much difference when standing at about 3m between the 2 plasma..

I'm deciding between the 2 as well, my viewing distance is even further at about 3.5-3.7m so any additional detail from FHD might not be very noticeable. Helps that the 350 is below 1k now too!

I finally bought a Sony 40NX710. Decided on this model as the price seems reasonable and it is within my budget. Didn't mind that it is a phasing out model. Quite happy with my purchase. Think 40-42 inch is just nice for my viewing distance when watching SD pictures.

Need advice from experts here. I am planning to buy a new TV soon for my living room. Viewing distance is only about minimum 2.35m to 2.55m maximum. What is the maximum TV screen size that I should get if I mainly watch free to air TV channels (with SD images) with occasional HD? Tks. Also any recommendation on brand and model? No need 3D. Preferably an internet tv but not most impt. Most impt is picture and sound quality.

Always get the biggest TV you can afford.

I am projecting onto a 100" screen, the largest my room can fit and it still seems too small.

2.5m can easily allow you to view a 50" tv comfortably ...

I am deciding between LG 55LW9500 and 47LW6500. My living room's wall to wall distance is 3.7m, so maybe after sofa and feature tv wall should be 3.5m?

I always watch SD shows either downloaded, starhub dramas. Once a week, HD BPL soccer and occasional PS3 gaming on HD. I do not spend on Blu-ray discs etc.

I am afraid that given my viewing distance, i would not get the best out of the 55" for SD. Can advise if i should go for the 55"(non-3D) or 47"(3D) model?

You can accommodate a 60" easily for HD at 2.7m or a 50" for SD, SEE the first post.

I got a headache and felt dizzy when i watch 46inch led at 2.7 metres. Is it because of the big screen or is it because of the glossy panel? I feel fine when watching 42inch with matt panel at 2.7metres. Kindly advice.

Just want to add that based on my personal experience, the TV is NEVER too big for the living room, maybe the bedroom but definitely not the living room.

You will get used to the screen size in no time and then it'll be too small!

I had a 36" WEGA flatscreen HDTV many years back (visible diagonal size is about 34"), then upgraded to a Sony 46" LCD TV, followed by a Philips 52" LCD TV, and now the latest Samsung 3D 55" LED TV.

Even before my new 55" arrives (to deliver later this week), I already know that the screen will not be big enough to have an immersive viewing like in the cinema, I mainly bought it for the 3D feature so can watch 3D movies and play my 3D PS3 games.

Initially I was debating whether to get a Samsung 60" LCD TV without 3D or this 55" Smart TV with 3D and wireless features, and in the end chose the latter. If I really want to see a bigger screen, I'll just temporarily move the sofa closer to the TV

Avoid my mistake and just get the biggest screen by stretching your budget a bit if possible, this will save you the 2-year-update that I've gone through. And always get the model that is at least one generation behind as it will give the best bang for the buck.

I assume there is no 3D? Could be due to the movie itself as some movies had vomit-inducing camera movements causing dizziness.

If your screen is bright enough with the video image clearly visible without seeing the reflected image of you (or what's behing you) then it shouldn't be the glossy screen issue.

The other method you can try is to watch the same content again but this time shift your sofa backwards and see if there's still headache.

Based on my experience, when I'm not feeling well and then I watch movies with lots of camera movement or play games (especially FPS) I can also get dizzy.
