Nic has mentioned before about the termination fee

There are 3 categories of customers

(A) Pioneer customers who had to pay for the modem
This batch of customers do not need to pay the termination fee

(B) Customers who did not pay for the modem and signed-up/recontracted before 2017
This batch of customers do not need to pay the termination fee when they recontract in 2017 and later, but need to pay the termination fee if terminate

(C) Customers from 2017 and later
This batch of customers have to pay a registration fee, but no need to pay termination fee

So, depending on which category you belong to, the termination fee may be applicable or non-applicable

Yes, termination fee is SGD126 paid to NetLinkTrust. VQ will collect the SGD126 and pay to NetLinkTrust

I called in and they never mention anything about the router. They told me to bring power adapter, ONT and yellow wire. So I assume I can keep the modem they gave me?

Any 2gbps users using wifi mesh? I'm deciding between the singtel one or a neat gear orbit. I have ever access to both...

Sent from Samsung SM-T715Y using GAGT

singtel wifi mesh is only available to singtel customers, though you can get it off carousell at a more expensive price..

Netgear Orbi may be quite popular now, but Linksys Velop is kinda equivalent as well. I know Velop can daisy chain but not too sure of Orbi, cos never state anything, i presume it does..

I can get the sing mesh device cos I'm still a singtel subscriber.

Velop is out cos can't set as AP. Perhaps I should look at orbi...

Who says velop cannot function as AP? Lol.

Anyway, mesh systems no one is using as a solitary node..

Both Singtel Wifi mesh and velop can support daisy chain, at least both are confirmed. For orbi, you will have one router node and one satellite node while velop all nodes are the same..

Just sign up for VQ few days ago and I have been facing streaming problems be it YouTube or Netflix. Every 5 mins it will be buffering. Did a speed test and it shows ping @ 2ms and download @ 119.30Mbps. Now I really wonder did I make a wrong choice to switch ISP.

I checked out user forums and the manual. The only feature avail is bridge mode and even that is half baked.

You're saying the velop can be configured as AP.? Then I'd be more interested in that cos of ethernet backhaul but I can't find any official documentation to support that. =/.

If I do get any solution, I'll get the starter kits with one router (to set in AP mode) and one satellite.

I think you misunderstood the definition of a mesh node on ethernet back haul. That is not equivalent to an access point.

In this, velop does not support ethernet backhaul and currently, only I've seen Singtel Wifi mesh being able to do that as of now, though the current firmware in the circulation does not support. An update is coming along.

Even for orbi, I don't think it supports ethernet backhaul if I'm not wrong.

For velop, I can only advise more when I get the product next week.. I'll be doing up a mini review on it soon, but paper review and real life review will likely be up soon for those local media bloggers like Lester Chan..

I think you may have misunderstood me actually. I get what u mean.

Regardless I spoke to linksys tech support to make some clarifications.

Just deciding now which would be a better solution for me.

Thanks for your input Renfred. It was, actually your posts in other threads that got me thinking of mesh network vs other solutions

Total regret switching to viewqwest

I am still having issues with my internet connectivity after coming close to a week. The same issue appears and whenever I call your helpline which is difficult to call through, I have to repeat again. I wish to cancel the contract if this issue still can't be resolved. It's getting ridiculous that my singnet backup fiber line has had less issues in the 6 years I've had it than the 1 year I have with viewqwest. Even after your facebook messenger promised to get back to me, I had to call in the hotline myself to be able to get any help after waiting for an entire day. I wish to cancel the internet contract since the issue still hasn't been able to resolved and seek a more reliable internet service provider.
To recap:
1. I have replaced with 3 different routers a Asus RT-ac88u, a Asus rt-ac56u and a synology rt-1900ac to no avail
2. I have replaced the cables multiple times from cat5e to 6
3. I have reset the ont and power cycled it multiple times.
Still no reliable internet.
Your previous solution was :
1. Reset the ONT
2. Change my internet to a different VLAN circuit
3. Manually bind the mac address

But I am still having issues. I have listed the above steps as I am tired of having to repeat the same situation to each CSO everytime I call into the hotline.

A summary of my experience with viewqwest so far. My singnet fiber has only experienced downtime when there are was a major network outage in Dec 2016. Viewqwest so far 3 times in a year.

Anyone else having similar issues?

hi, Is there any limitation on International bandwidth speed for Viewqwest ?

I just got my 2nd port open and using viewqwest to download the following file using Internet download manager and the speed barely hit 8Mb/sec. The same file i use to download using starhub can hit 25-30Mb/sec most of the time. Just wondering..

http://ubuntu.mirrors.tds.net/pub/releases/16.04.2/ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

Edit* Also for the following file ftp://ftp.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/Linux/ubuntu-releases/16.04.2/ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso Using starhub the speed will be consistent at 20Mb/sec. However with viewqwest it will hit 30Mb/sec and then will bump down to 7-8Mb/sec and remain there.

Edit 2* For http://mirror.nexcess.net/ubuntu-releases/16.04.2/ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso I am getting 20-30Mb/sec consistent speed with Starhub and only getting 5Mb-8Mb/sec with viewqwest. hmmm..

Today is worse. What is wrong with VQ. I tried sending an office email with 20mb attachment and it takes like forever.

Just outta curiosity........are there actually any happy vq users here? LOL

Maybe me? Very few problems so far with the exception of the sole major outage few months back. But I think it's likely due to a combination of exchange (JW) + equipment that makes it less problematic (Zhone 2301 and AC68U).

Ps:Just asked a friend staying in the East whom I recommended VQ to two years ago out of curiosity, apparently no issues there (he literally said very good when I asked for his opinion) and he just recontracted.

It's disconcerting for me to hear others here have issues though; there are probably some discrepancies in reliability across the board that needs to be ironed out.

No issues of late as well. I do find asus router firmware kind of buggy with VQ when I was using it previously but had been rock steady with the MT CCR1009 ever since. Go figure. :s22:

I'm ok with VQ too

That's why i recontracted with them after 2 years of service with them, and the price plan VQ is offering now is comparable to what other ISPs are offering. No longer 2 times more expensive than the average of the price plans of the other ISPs.

I'm at Marine Parade, so should be the East Exchange. Not much major issues.

Of course, if you stream contents from China or connect to game servers, there might be issues from time to time (as evidenced from posts here) which may not be completely faulted by VQ

As i do not generally run into issues, i do not usually contact the tech support or cust service or billing department. So i cannot comment too much on how good or crappy they are in handling calls (which i read from posts here that there are improvements to be made)

So in short, there will be people running into issues with VQ and the services provided, but at the same time, there are also people with no issues with VQ (most of the time, that is...)

:D
