The telcos may shutdown 3G for their users by end of July, but probably keep it on for MNVOs since they are not that efficient to implement VoLTE for them or who knows, contract issues.

Not on the card reader, but on your mobile app. But that's another discussion, so let's not open that can of worms here.

The point here is that IMDA announced that 3G will be turned off this year but LTA is not ready yet. And there may be other agencies/systems still stuck on 3G.

The network itself may not be turned off, but IMDA may require telcos to shift individual customers like us to 4G.

Based on the way the article is written, the earliest VoLTE turns on date is 1 Aug 2024, probably to save some cost from Singtel.

I think it's at the request of telcos. Singtel and Starhub need more time to transit people to 4G/5G. Whereas M1 have completed the transition.

Have to also remember, our NETs, Paywave and POS machines are mostly still on 3G, either Singtel or Starhub network

To not anyhow set deadlines I guess? Otherwise how are they to be trusted with more important policy planning?
And nobody is rushing 3G network expiration except the government itself, so why set a deadline that ownself cannot keep?

Adhere to the deadline and 3G cutoff on the dot.

never asked for not shutting down 3G. But asking for 4G service that Is no worse than existing 3G coverage. Now still many carparks, lifts, toilets are 3G only, if want to shut down 3G, need to wait for 4G is no worse in coverage

Concur, especially it came from government and not private companies. In a country known for strict laws and POFMA, obviously most people are not going to second guess any information from government.
