Yes I agree. Garmin is well known for their GPS and in recent years they have managed to create a niche in gps watches but too bad they haven’t manufacture watches with cellular yet.

I estimate 60-70% of people who buys garmin watches used it for running but maybe only 20-30% of people who buys Apple Watch runs.

Garmin aviator watches are professional grade quality

I used to use Garmin GPS app for the phone and even paid premium for it, only to have it discontinued several mths later.

I don’t go for runs, only trekking (which I’ve not done for some time) and outdoor walks in which the Apple Watch is sufficient.

Oh my bro likes my series 6 so I may pass mine to him and get myself either a blue alu or a graphite if I feel rich enough. May I ask how to I transfer my Singtel cellular plan to the new watch ?

Can’t really transfer, more like removing the plan on your watch when unpairing and re-activating numbershare when pairing the new watch, which will incur a $10 activation fee. You can call Singtel to try getting it waived but it depends on the CSO.

It’s only when you change phone, then keep the plan on your watch when unpairing and during re-pairing to the new phone, it will enable back.

So when u pairing the watch, do I choose keep the plan or cancel the plan?
I think I chose keep the plan when I unpaired

When the new watch is here I just activate the plan as per normal? Thanks

By right when unpairing the old watch, should not keep the plan, but that time I also accidentally selected to keep plan.

But no worries, when you pair a new watch and re-activate numbershare as per with every new watch, the plan will be automatically transferred to the new watch as only one numbershare device per mobile number. But if I’m incorrect anyone can correct me.

The Apple Watch wasn’t primarily made for running, but more of health monitoring and connectivity emphasis. Garmin’s more of GPS and running but what I like about Garmin is basically their GPS. Sometime last year I also saw in newspaper that Garmin have a watch for aviators that costs over $3000?

For serious run forget about AW lah, just use your Garmin ... the VO2 and whatnot are not readily available thru the Garmin apps ...

Cheers 🥂

For anyone using it for running, better check out this review:

actually i run 3-4x/week varying 6-10km per session. i also have went thru forerunner series until fenix. The fact is for runs only Apple watch is more than capable.

Strangely i dont have that good experience with Garmin, they always tend to lock on to GPS too slowly, many times i got to wait over 30s-1min for lock on then start. Its too slow for modern days IMO. whereas for AW its usually quite instantaneous.GPS accuracy wise it relatively accurate. I can be sure since i used to run in stadium lap after lap after lap, it draw pretty nicely when i review the path.

For regular runners, v02max honestly are just numbers, if you run regular enough you should know your fitness level, basing on the speed, distance and the heartrate and obviously your own breathlessness intensity you should know what is too high or low too much or too little. Listen to your body. or simply look at your BPM. Something is seriously wrong with you if your BPM is high and you cant feel the breathlessness. Nevertheless the recording of BPM is still a good way to log your runs and shows the intensity.

Running base on pace, distance and your heart rate is more than enough to tell you similar number from the pseudo v02max numbers whether its from garmin or from AW.

Dont take the vo2max number so seriously, its still just an estimate even by garmin watches. If you really want a solid number to know your limit do a proper vo2max test in sport clinic or hospital. those system masked you up and test the oxygen consumption. Confirm accurate. Dont dwell on estimated numbers.

just my $0.02 happy running!

Ya I know Garmin is a better watch for running but my wife says i should be contactable during run in case of any emergency and in case I need help midway through my longer runs. So I may have to only use AW for running from now. See how it goes ... but I definitely prefer Garmin for running as the Garmin connect is solid. AW got to use fitness app, health app and Watch app very confusing haha
Bro gt_5454,

We both have the same problem, that’s why we both ended up buying both Garmin and AW.

Now i sometimes (or rather alot of time), ended up wearing both when running 🤦😂

Totally agreed ... serious and real runners use Garmin instead of AW for tracking their runs 😉👌🏽

Hahaha bro you damn power leh like those tech reviewer who wear AW on one wrist and Garmin on the other and they also wear chest strap HR monitor...

Ultimately I would want to just keep one. So it’s either I use Garmin and lug my 200g iPhone XS Max with me , or use AW cellular and forego some of the stats that Garmin can provide

i beg to differ. serious runners and season runners just need tracking on their run distance. most of them already can gauge their own fitness. To continuously check your heartrate only means you're unsure much about your own speed pace and fitness and not very in tune with your heartrate and breathing. You all bought too much into gimmicks.

Are you training for runs at sub 20min for 5km? 50min for 10km etc, harder run will require some form of training mixture of sprints and endurance. You dont need a watch to tell you that, but a system of training.

I run regularly at 3-4x/week at a pace of approx 4.30min/km(8-10km for 90% of my sessions). i still can do sub 10 min for 2.4km at the age of 44. i think this is quite respectable and should classify as serious and "real" runner. i've been solely using AW for my recording and monitoring for my average heartrate and peak rates.

That being said Garmins are good at across hybrid sports tracking including cycling and recovery guidance etc. It does have suite of different option more flexible than AW definitely but to say "serious and real runners" uses garmin watch instead is grossly a wrong statement.

A good tool is only as good as its user!

Just look at DCrainmaker, he's a triat. he has been testing and reviewing AW for ages. you will always see comparison of many sports watches he test with AW too.

Anyway you can like the features of the garmin which i agree its alot more to give, but disqualifying people who wear apple watch as real and serious runners. I CANNOT i gotta speak up.

Haha but what won't do is to wear the "bra" chest strap 😂😂😂

I have resigned to wear both 😂, the AW is so much lighter than your iPhone so not much of an issue for now, that's the best compromise for me now ... 😂

No worries, you're entitled to your opinion. I have both ...
yah :) I had both too. been there done that.
I had 3 Forerunners to 1 x fenix. From testing polar to garmin chest belts to Mio pulse optical ant+ and bluetooth. After a while it’s just fanfare having it.

Walau, same lah, i also tested many forerunners, vivohr, Fenix 5 & 6, 3 polars, 3 Fitbits .., etc but you certainly beat me bcos I have never tested the bra chest strap ... only have footpod and running dynamics pod.

For me AW is not good for running but very happy for you if find AW is the best for you as you found what you wanted ... 👍👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
