Yes, Cannot do direct Transfer.
On the same ATM, use Youtrip Card withdraw, then use Local Bank card deposit to China account. all can be done within few Mins.
Best if they enable this . can go bank counter..do it.

Open up the QR code of Wechat/Alipay app for them to scan the amount.. then they help us deposit to our china bank account..

The reason why its so cumbersome and requiring physical verifications etc. is to counter money laundering and capital outflow.
So doubt this will happen anytime soon, but who knows? I hope so too.

Try yourself, enable your Alipay merchants payment, link your Alipay to your China Bank Account. Use another phone to open Changipay or OCBC pay to Scan Alipay QR code. Check the payment can go through or not.

Yes. Open bank account in china now is easy...
Fill in the form, have a passport and china number to received the otp...
Problem is how to deposit $$$ into that bank account...

Though was easy.. like they scan my phone (wechat/alipay) for qr payment...and the deduction is done within the app.

I will be in Shanghai next week and intend to try opening a bank account. May I know what ABC Bank is? Am intending to try ICBC and China Construction. Anyone successfully opened bank account in Shanghai? I already have a local CTC number which I got on my last trip earlier this year. Thanks!

I think if you havea multi currency acct you can transfer any except rmb, because of the FX control., i think?

Yes.. in china now. Have applied a local china debit card.
But unable to topup $$ from alipay or wechat pay.

Last June when I was in China, I also applied for a local China debit card & can link it to my Alipay & Wechat wallet.

I withdrew some cash with my Youtrip card & added the cash to my China debit card. After that I can top up my Alipay & Wechat wallet with the debit card successfully.

Think now they relaxed the rule.
This March, I went to China once and came to know only need the Foreign Passport, a mobile phone number and few Q and A on the spot, then can open Bank Account already, such as ABC Bank, CCB Bank.
These two are nationwide Big Bank, not small local Bank.

Hello I am off to Shanghai in 2 days and will try to open a bank account as this year alone I will be travelling to China about 6x and being able to bind WeChat /
Alipay to non international CC is a big draw. Have shortlisted ICBC CCB and CMB. Would like to check with experts here - were the accounts opened immediately? I am only in Shanghai 16/7 afternoon (might even get into city after banking hours) and whole day 17/7. I then fly out to another city and will only be back in Shanghai on the weekend.

thanks!

Ideally you have another spare day to seek for assistance if you face any trouble.
But since you are going to China again, then I don't think there's any issues since you can head back again, just face some delays.

For my case, there was some paperwork to do & it took the bank staff some time to key into their system as they need to do some checking & verification. If they are unfamiliar with the procedures for foreigners to open bank acct, it might take longer time. I went to the bank around 1 hr before closing time but managed to get my bank card on the same day at closing time (5pm).

Do check the opening hours of the banks, they might not open during weekends.

I will be in Hunan for the rest of the week until the weekend when I am back in Shanghai before flying home. Thereafter I’ll only be back in Shanghai in November and December so I am hoping I can get to one bank on Tuesday afternoon (ABC closes at 5pm - the rest at 430pm) and see how it goes. went to the bank around 1 hr before closing time but managed to get my bank card on the same day at closing time (5pm).

Yeah, none of the 4 near my hotel open on weekends. Hoping to get to one bank before closing on Tues and the others (if the first one fails) on Wed morning. ICBC CMB ABC and CCB are all within 500m from my hotel. I have the APEC card but I don’t think that counts for anything

Fingers crossed! Will report back.

What's the duration of stay in China for the APEC card? Online it says either 60 days or 90 days. Can't find any source that can give a better accuracy answer. Thanks.

Try to go earlier if possible, their timing is sharp, so no waiting, similar to SIngapore. lol

Hmm I am not sure because my trips are short but higher frequency so this never kicks in.

I'm in China every other month for max 30 days.

Need a visa to stay longer. Damn tired to keep flying back to Singapore for visa runs.

If you have the APEC card, then it should be fine, since each entry is up to 60 days (with possibility to extend to 90 days with valid reason).
