Depends on a number of factors, one e.g., i sold my car cause road tax renewal coming, suspension all gone, carpark renewal coming and those wear and tear parts need to change. So just push to scrap yard and say bye bye. But someone wants to eat. So... ok lor :)

Sell before the 9th year of your COE.
Sell before your road tax due
Sell before your insurance due (though doesn't matter cos can get refund on remaining months).

After 9th year, your car only has paper+body value left. You don't get anything extra. You want to earn above paper+body value, you need to sell before that. All car drivers will agree with this.

Road tax goes with the car. Meaning your road tax renew date is 1st Dec, and you sell on 2nd dec, 5months 30 days worth of road tax, goes to the dealer - you paid for the dealer.

Eg, my RT due on Nov, I sold my ride in Aug, I paid 3 months worth of RT for the dealer.

Before 9 year meaning with at least 2 year COE remaining or 1 year COE?

If my car COE expire March 2019, when should I sell? Before March 2018 or 2017?

Preferrably, 1.5 yrs or more, if you want higher value. Put yourself in the 2nd hand dealer shoes, you buy in a car, you also hope to be able to resell it and make some cash from it. If your car, I buy in, has no resale value (or rental value), then who would pay you higher? :)

March 2019, anytime before Mar 2018 would be ideal.

Friend dragged his car past 9th year thinking he would save more by trading in the car almost near the chopping date.

Now he calculate back, if he sold it in the 8th year, he didn't really save anything more than trading it now. He also regret drag the sale for 1 year more.

I also did my calculations, I don't really save if I drove till 9th year, so I just sold the ride 3 months into it's 8th year.
