But you were talking about cashmere bro, thats totally different so thats laughable. ;)

Well, so 1.5K for an entry level suit sounds fair then am i right?

Good quality linen can also cost, so 1.2-950= $250( for quality linen fabric), sounds fair to me,

The thing is, how do you guys know you haven't been ripped off along? ;)

He charges $950 for CMT for suits. I can get Halstead mohair fabrics for approx $500, meaning my suit is less than $1.5k. 1.2k for a linen jacket looks expensive at that point.

Commissioned a shirt recently from a local tailor. I'd like to get comments on it so that I know what to look out for in the future when I get other shirts done up.
Not going to reveal who it is yet so that the comments can be objective.

Please feel free to give comments! Apologies for the poor image quality. Taken with my phone front camera cos I had to take it myself.

Yeah, it looks like a tucked in shirt, you should take a shot with it tucked in.

Wearing jeans today so tucking in might be a little different from when I tuck in wearing work pants. Will take another one with work pants when I have the chance.

"Good" linen is not cheap, can cost more than some brands for wool. Plus, Halstead is relatively lower priced. For eg, I bought linen from W. Bill, meterage costs more than most Halstead stuff (iirc, and not counting fancy threadcount or blends).

That being said, cloth merchants sometimes hold clearance sales, and there are good bargains to be had if you keep an eye out for them. I think Petia mentioned a recent one by huddersfield, I just snagged 3.5m of grey POW for SGD$200 (incl. shipping to SG).

arcfire - Setting aside tucking the shirt in, I think it will be good if your next shirt addresses your dropped right shoulder. Right now it's cut for someone with a squarer shoulder, so when it sags it causes ripples throughout the torso.

Also, why order your shirt with darts? Are you concerned about weight gain?

Agreed. Anything with a decent percentage of cashmere weaved into it will cost a bomb for just material alone. The cloth alone can be as expensive as an entry level suit.

You're assuming KBKS charges 950 for CMT. That's laughable in itself as well. Knowing anything by Kevin Seah, his margins are far far thicker than that.

All I'm saying is, keeping things in perspective I think there are cheaper tailors for the same quality.

As for my cashmere wool blend, even if it's 1% cashmere only, I think 1150 is cheaper than 1200 for linen by any measure.

Thanks for your suggestion. How should it be cut? Or should I say, how can it be addressed?

As for the darts, I don't know actually. All my tailored shirts had darts so I assumed that it was the norm.... Should I be doing my shirts without the darts?

Whether the linen in question is good is arguable. :)

Maybe Mookie can clarify the brand. But I highly doubt it's from a good mill.

Put it this way, if the linen is of brand name I'll acknowledge the value.

Btw, I don't go for branded fabrics because I haven't found the difference. As long as I like the look and feel of it, I'm not going to care which mill did it.

Ya lor, that's why I said "good". I don't like the stiffness of the W.Bill tbh. Shoulda done something cheaper, less heartpain.

arcfire - For future shirts, specify to the tailor you want to compensate for the dropped right shoulder, he should know what to do. As for darts... I suppose its personal preference. I find them unsightly, albeit useful if you foresee your waist expanding.

You're right, the one I posted earlier wasn't from a "branded" mill but rather an in-house fabric that they carry, can't really recall where is it from. It's pretty good though.

No doubt at $1300, it's pricey. The workmanship, fit and communication is excellent though. It's my first jacket from KBKS and I believe it'll get better for subsequent commissions. :)

Wa what?! 1.3k now? I thought 1.2k.

Well, I guess there will always be people willing to pay more. As long as you're happy :)

What's the alternative to darts?

I told my tailor I wanted to avoid too much cloth at the back after I lost some weight, he did the exact same thing for me.

How do you get a shirt so fitting without having too much cloth at the back? My old shirts have enough room to hide a chicken at the back.

Hear, hear.

Another shot from the same recent vacation:-

And now you can see I'm really not that tall.

But you don't look short either. Looking sharp as usual, is that a Tartan suit? Don't really see it in Sg. At most the trousers. :)

Bdc and you definitely needs to post more often.

Yes, it's a Black Watch tartan but in summer weight and weave. Vintage fabric. :)

From some time back, linen again:-

R408Uty.jpg

Yes --linen is my favourite fabric choice.

Can i ask how often do u, bdc etc put on a suit/jacket in your daily life in sg? Somehow i get the sense u guys prob of a diff social class and lifestyle because i cannot find myself having a reason to suit up or throw on a jacket outside of business or wedding occasions.

Open question to all too, since many ppl hv shared their jacket commissions.
