Guys, I would like to know more information about joining INSEAD.
I did a rough calculation and its about 100k. Is this a one time payment? How easy/difficult it is to get a partial loan for this from S'pore banks and financing houses?

For admission, what are the profile of the typical student? Scholars? Top 5% performers of their univ/companies?

In terms of selection, what is the main focus? or are they equally important?
Looking through the website,

1) transcript results.
2) Employment achievements
3) Referral letters
4) GMAT

I already have a masters from NTU, does this qualify as an added plus point?

Would appreciate any advice from anyone here. Thank you.

Hey, I never applied for INSEAD, but did some research and attended their info session, so i will help to fill in some blanks for you.

Not sure how easy it is to get a local bank loan, but ex INSEAD students started a financing company for admitted students to top business schools. Not sure what are the interest rates compared to local loans too, so do your research.

I dont think anyone can tell you which are the main focus. They will generally tell you they look at everything. Things you didn't list above that should be pretty important are probably leadership experience and/or leadership potential. They will probably look at stuff that you do outside of work/school also, eg do you volunteer at your grassroots or at some political party, or give back to the society through volunteer work, etc. Interesting background is also something that will add to your application i think.

If you think in their shoes, they would want their future alumni to be people who started new movements, or be in positions of leadership/power or change people's live for the better, etc. Thus they will look out for possible indicators to those.

Since they value diversity, if you belong to too common a group, you will need to be more outstanding. I think generally india indian and china chinese students have a higher GMAT average than other minorities, simply because there are more applicants from those pools.

Hope that helps.

I did and I regretted rushing my application, cause when I found out about the deadline I had only 1 week to write all 6 essays. I strongly suspect it was the quality of my essays that got me rejected.

did you manage to get an interview?

With regards to Insead they do need outstanding ppl.

My in law applied and was rejected, instead he applied for local STB scholarship to do joint masters with Cornell and was accepted.
Profile
GMAT 700+, local scholar, 1st class from NUS, 3+yrs manager position in a decent company every yr like 5-6mths bonus.

Agree. And many people don't mind paying $20k-$40K to buy a piece of false hope. And the private school providers know how to be opportunistic in this. Please don't be another sucker....

Local uni's requirements (admission and fees) are higher compared to private schools providing similar programs. There are some decent australian mbas like Adelaide, UK Strathclyde, Lancaster that are in the more affordable range for most people.

As for buying a 'piece of false hope' it depends on how well you apply what is learn from class, the networking etc etc and more importantly, your personality, attitude, strengths etc and whether the recruiting manager likes you. I have personally rejected a job applicant from a local uni with very high gpa. Academically very strong, well spoken but i did not like his arrogant attitude. He was searching for a job for almost 9 months. To be honest, if he was that good, MNCs would have snapped him up long ago.

For singapore in particular, having the mba gives you an edge against those who do not assuming all things equal (years of experience etc). Not forgetting you are also competing with foreigners who are armed with masters/mba/PhDs and some may have wider international exposure with a lower asking salary.

So whether is it a false hope or not, it depends on how you value the mba. When you realise you should have taken the mba years ago, its already too late. Opportunities do not come knocking on your door twice.

Just my 2 cents worth

Recognition from who and employment from where?
I would think it is self explanatory from there.

I really do think that the only MBA available locally that will garner top-level recognition is insead.

local hr and hiring managers often discount distant learning/offshore mba even the better ones like manchester mba.

i would suggest you go for the nus/ntu mba

If you do the Manchester MBA, you should not be interviewing with HR who don't know about the quality of the programme...
