The cost of construction and maintenance will be humongous. Maintaining a car is much cheaper than maintaining trains and stations.

For a country size and population size of 5 mil, really need such massive train network?

What do u think?
not enuff actually.
look at tokyo, 3x the size and pop of sg, 2000 train stations. dun think we even hit 400.

Who is getting the projects?

who is running the stations after they start operation?

who is collecting the tickets?

Throwing good money into loss making venture is just stupidity?

Maintaining a car is way cheaper and the roads only took up small size. Maintaining trains is crazy expensive and the tracks and train interchange will take up insane amount of lands.

I rather buy auto stocks than rail stocks becos rails don't make much money! All rail transport stocks are barely profitable.
Not correct. Government is a NOT-for-profit organisation. Generating profit is secondary objective to government.

the main objective is to stimulate economy via job creation for MRT building. Further, no country has ever do well if they do not continuously improve on their existing infrastructure. And yes, this is in line with the population expansion and greener environment as compared to private transport like cars.

One of the many reason is,

If they can profit why not?
Implements COE, only the rich ppl can afford.
What about poor low ses people?
Implements a public transport (bus, trains) hikes fare whatnot .

Tony Tan is right. Trains are really not profitable and quite rightly logically speaking foolish. But it is essential. Imagine Sinkieland without MRT!
there was a glourious time where singapore was expanding and blooming like siao and that was the time there is no MRT in the entire nation

Like it. No where near the concentration in London or New York. With more lines and stations up, will give up my car.

Change here and there to get to the destination faster I guess. Taipei is like this, Hong Kong too. Can be quite complicated if unfamiliar with the lines when it grow bigger.
is not complicated enough, that's why EW, NS, circle; later build trapezoid, square, oval lines etc

sg want rival tokyo subway lines maze

dun do this how to ensure ppl remember the 'work' they do? just like how lifts on every floor becomes a very important factor during GE

ppl with foresight didn't wanna build a lift on every floor when hdb first built their public housing? constant 'upgrading' is needed to show peasants they care, they bother
