I think sinkieland is waiting for WiFi 7
The standard willl be finalized next year after which will see the release of WiFi 7 products the following year

That seems to be the case. That is why I expect Wifi 6E to be dead in Singapore but Wifi 7 will be adopted later.

Still let's see when IMDA will approve the 6GHz bands for wifi usage. Things may change next year.

Interesting article from DongKnows comapring Asus Zenwifi XT8 tri-band vs Zenwifi ET8 Wifi 6E routers. For wireless backhaul, he actually recommends Zenwifi XT8 and not Zenwifi ET8.

https://dongknows.com/asus-zenwifi-et8-wi-fi-6e-mesh-system-review/https://dongknows.com/asus-zenwifi-et8-vs-xt8-which-to-buy/
Looks like 6Ghz band does not help much when it is used as dedicated wireless backhaul...

If you can't run Ethernet cable in your house and you want to get multi-gigabit connection in your network, I guess MoCA 2.5 + Mesh Router with 2.5Gbps Lan port will be a solution.

6GHz distance issue (shorter wavelength). 5GHz still better as backhaul.

6GHz for 6E devices connection should still be better than 5GHz, especially if the device is near the router.

But WiFi 7 do required the frequency band used by WiFi 6e too?

Correct. It is only about timing. 6GHz band will get approved for Wifi usage later by IMDA. And then Wifi 7 will replace Wiif 6E at that time. That is why I think Wifi 6E is dead in Singapore.

Actually I do not quite understand this. I saw some of the new Intel gen 12 notebook PC with new WiFi card. It does support 6G channel ie WiFi 6e capable. But still we need IMDA approval for 6e router?

Yes you need IMDA approval for Wifi 6E routers and other devices, including mobile phones and wireless adapters. By right the mobile phones and wireless adapters should not enable the 6GHz band by default, even if the hardware supports the 6GHz band.

It seem not the case for mobile phone and laptop.

i think for intranet it will definitely help.. but for external internet access i think it is back to square one...
Access response should be improve but there is too many factors affecting that...

still depend heavily on the entire infrastructure which most home user dun really required vs WIFI 5 or WIFI 6...
just wait for the price to settle down in coming years will be wise... before any addition.
For home user, there is no intranet.

I think it depend on how the hoe user setup. Previously I have a home entertainment system setup as separate network. Is a isolated network access by no one outside the network.
I think intranet does not means it would not has access to outside world.

Many thanks, yes you are right now as still waiting for the router 6e to be approved in SG and I only interested in PC usage mainly.

2022 ending soon and still no sign of 6E.

I stumbled into this thread when I was looking for 6E routers to replace my wifi5 orbi. Recently the satellite seems to be a bit wonky and keep having backhual hiccups. I like to tell myself because 5Ghz really over crowded around my place, so I can get a new router :p

Then I realised no 6E router avail here yet. Guess have to go old school cable route for the time being.

Finally!!!

Proposing only the lower 500MHz of bandwidth in the 6GHz range. For a start.

Will allow 1 non overlapping 320MHz channel (Wi-Fi 7), or 3 channels of 160MHz.

Nice one. Toe me the extra three 160MHz channels will be really useful. I am not so sure that single 320MHz channel is that useful or not.

Early adopters may get Wifi 6E router soon after the formal approval and tje first batch of Wifi 6E router to appear in SG market.

For people who have good Wifi 6 routers, I guess there is no pressing need to upgrade yet. I will stick to my Asus RT-AX86U + RT-AX82U in the near future and wait for Wifi 7 routers in the future.
