From here:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...and-switch-rj45-version-no-sfp-ports.7072646/

4. Wireless router with single 10G port -- not good for 10Gbps plan if you want to support 10G capable wired device.
If you do not have 10G wired device, they can be used for 10Gbps plan as well, --> wired devices will be limited to 2.5Gbps for those with 2.5G LAN ports.
You can also use them for 5Gbps plan --> wired devices will be limited to 2.5Gbps for those with 2.5G LAN ports.

Asus RT-BE92U (triband BE9700, single 10G port, quad 2.5G ports, 1GB RAM)
Asus RT-BE86U (dual band BE6800, single 10G port, quad 2.5G ports, 1GB RAM)
Asus GT-AX11000 Pro (triband AX11000, one 10G port and one 2.5G port, quad 1G port)
Netgear Orbi 960 (quad band AXE11000, main router: one 10G port and one 2.5G port and three 1G port; satellite node: one 2.5G port and thee 1G ports)
TP-Link Archer BE700 (Triband BE15000, one 10G port and one 2.5G port and thee 1G ports)
TP-Link Archer BE550 Pro (Triband BE9700, 1× 10 Gbps WAN, 4× 2.5 Gbps LAN)

Just an example, I will recommend RT-BE88U over RT-BE86U since it has dual 10G ports and 2GB RAM, compared to RT-BE86U with single 10G port and 1GB RAM. But some people may not have the space to put RT-BE88U in the DB box and they may prefer the vertical form factor or RT-BE86U.

ONT --> RT-BE86U 10G WAN port
RT-BE86U 2.5G LAN ports x 4 --> patch panel
Patch panel --> living room LAN port --> 2.5G switch --> 2.5Gbps capable NAS and 1Gbps capable game console and 100Mbps capable smart TV
Patch panel --> study room LAN port --> 2.5G capable desktop PC
Patch panel --> main bedroom LAN port -->TUF-BE3600 as AImesh node (2.5G WAN port)

The above configuration can use the 5Gbpe/6Gbps plan bandwidth quite effectively, a bit tough to use the full 8.2Gbps bandwidth from 10Gbps plan though.

The above configuration is similar to the example configuration mentioned in Page 1 (using SIMBA 10Gbps plan as an example)
ESEnpbN.png

One the other hand, it is a bit more future proof if you go with a router with dual 10G ports (you can add 10G switch later to have more 10G wired device).

Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps FAQ only show the setup with HB810 WiFi 7 router.

But in reality quite some Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps plan only come with lousy 1Gbps capable WiFi 6 router or mesh solution.

People will often ask how to utlilize the full bandwidth of the 5Gbps plan and 10Gbps plan with the lousy 1Gbps capable WiFi 6 router? Of course you cannot achieve that.

If you read the above FAQs, Singtel expects you to use wired device to achive the above goal.
1) 5Gbps FAQ
https://www.singtel.com/content/dam/singtel/eshop/Fibre/agreements/5gbps-faq.pdf

How do I achieve 5Gbps speeds?
To enjoy up to a maximum of 5Gbps speeds, your device must connect to the XGS-PON ONR via the 10Gbps active LAN port to a compatible ethernet LAN port that supports up to 5Gbps. Your destination app or web server must be connected to a high bandwidth link. There is also a maximum aggregate throughput of up to 5Gbps based on two concurrent download connections.

2) 10Gbps FAQ
https://www.singtel.com/content/dam/singtel/eshop/Fibre/agreements/10Gbps-FAQ-WiFi7.pdf

3) Typical Singtel Fibre Internet Speed

Typical local and international download speeds

The following is based on more than 200 measured readings for each Fibre Broadband plan across peak and off-peak hours. It is validated from July to September 2024.

Peak hours are generally from 7pm - 1am, while off-peak hours are generally from 1am - 7pm.

Yes, 10G port on the ISP ONT/ONR are all RJ45 type. The only exception is VQ's Huawei SFP+ ONU stick.

No issues -- you can use an SFP+ to 10G RJ45 module. It will be a bit hot, but then just use a USB fan to cool it down. I have bought USB fans of different size to cool down my mini PCs and switches, even without using the SFP+ 10G copper module in the current setup.

That is why some power users like VQ's Huawei SFP+ ONU, in that case, they can connect that to the wired router or managed switch with SFP+ port.
Bro, any suggestion which to get for SFP+ to 10G RJ45 module? I wan to connect my ONT (RJ45) to my router (SFP+). Unifi model or other, which one ar? Thanks in advance!

I created a few variations and update the first page posts.

One example for those who got the HB710 but later decide to have more wired device.

ISPs may offer cheaper routers in the lower cost plans. The users need to understand the offerings when selecting lower cost bundle plans.

Quick summary:
1) M1, MR and SIMBA are okay, not including cheaper bundle for 5Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans.
2) Singtel users may be bundled with 1Gbps capable only wireless AP or mesh solution.
3) Starhub users may need to avoid getting TP-Link EX510 (S$96) which is only 1G capable, HB710 at S$192 is much better.
4) VQ may bundle lower end router for the 10Gbps plan, like Asus RT-BE58U, Asus ZenWiFi BD4 and Amazon eero Pro 6E.
5) WC may bundle Deco BE25 for the 10Gbps plan.

WC makes it clear that the lower priced 10Gbps router bundle with Deco BE25 may not be able to fully utilize the bandwidth, rather you can only get up to 2.5Gbps wired speed from Deco BE25, since Deco BE25 has dual 2.5Gbe ports (no 10G WAN/LAN port).

WC ONR 10G LAN port --> Deco BE25 2.5Gbe WAN port
Deco BE25 2.5Gbe LAN port --> wired device (up to 2.5Gbe)
Deco BE25 wireless (dual band BE5000) --> wireless clients (say up to 1.6Gbps wireless speed with good wireless clients).

Starhub --> some Starhub shop staff recommend TP-Link EX510 (S$4 per month add-on) to Starhub 5Gbps users (special offer at S$29.55 per month, ONT option). This is not a good recommendation as it is only rated at 1Gbps and has low wireless spec of AX3000.

It is much better to go with HB710 at S$192 as it has dual 10G ports and it is a triband WiFi 7 router with 6GHz band (BE18000 rated).

Spec comparison of EX510 vs HB710:
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/ex510/
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb710/#specifications

On the other hand, Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR is considered as 10G capable as it has 10G LAN port along with AX6000 wireless function. The main issue is that is can only mesh with Nokia Beacon 2 (1G capable only).

M1 is good that it only offers Archer BE805 or Asus ZenWiFi BT10 twin-pack for M1 6Gbps/10Gbps plan users. So the users are able to fully utilize the bandwidth after the installation.

VQ is not very clear to state the limitations of bundled cheaper router or mesh solution.

For example, VQ now offers Asus RT-BE58U, Asus ZenWiFi BD4 or Amazon eero Pro 6E with the 10Gbps plan. They only have 2.5G WAN port. Wired device will be limited to 1Gbps for RT-BE58U and Amazon eero Pro 6E.
https://viewqwest.com/sg/residential/broadband/

Asus RT-BE58U --> dual band WiFi 7 BE3600 (no 6GHz), single 2.5G port, quad 1G ports
Amazon eero Pro 6E --> one 2.5G port, one 1G port, triband WiFi 6E, AXE5400
Asus ZenWiFi BD4 -->dual band WiFi 7 BE3600 (no 6GHz), dual 2.5G ports

SIMBA is also okay.

It does not offer router bundle in general with its 10Gbps offering, but SIMBA users are able to get Amazon eero MAX 7 from SIMBA at S$399, which is 10G capable.

As mentioned, before, Singtel shows HB810 in the network configuration of Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps plan, but in reality cheaper Singtel plans may come with 1Gbps capable only wireless router or mesh solution. So your wireless speed will be limited to 1Gbps.

https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont

Then does the plan still qualify to be called 5Gbps/10Gbps plan? In reality the answer is YES. The idea is that you can connect one 10G capable wired device to the Singtel ONR 10G LAN port to fully uitlize the bandwidth.

Example for Singtel 5Gbps plan:

Can I confirm if the wired connection to the desktop from the 2nd HB719 (mesh node) will be on 5/10Gbps?

Cos I just subscribed to the 5Gbps plan but only bought 1 HB710, but I would want to have 2 wired connections to 2 desktops.

So wondering if it is better to buy a 10switch (at least $300?) or a 2nd HB710 ($192) if it can provide 5Gbps wired connection as a mesh node.

Further discussion in the Starhub 5Gbps thread.

How do you plan to connect the two HB710 units?

Wireless or wired?

If wired (10Gbps Ethernet backhaul), you can accommodate one 10G wired device on the mesh node.

If wireless (wireless backhaul), you can accommodate one 10G wired device on the main node. 10G wired device connected to the 10G port of the second mesh node may or may not be able to get 5Gbps depending on the distance and placement of the second mesh node.

If you need multiple wired device, but only one 10G wired device, get a 10G/2.5G switch (about S$100 with dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports).

If you need multiple wired device, and at least two 10G wired devices, get a 10G switch (about S$170 to S$250 with quad 10G RJ45 ports and quad 10G SFP+ ports).

More about 10G switches:
Thread '10G capable router and switch -- RJ45 version, no SFP+ ports' https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...and-switch-rj45-version-no-sfp-ports.7072646/

Thinking to connect the two HB710 units wirelessly as I would like to have both desktops to have wired 10G. So 1 HB710 wired to each desktops. The two desktops are just beside each other so the HB710 will be very close.

In this case, more worth it to get either
A) One more HB710
B) 10G Switch

10G switch, much more stable and faster.

Would like to check if my setup is ok.

2021 TOP 4 room BTO. Ethernet cable should be CAT 6 right?

Simba 10gbps plan
ONT to 10gbps switch inside DB BOX ( still deciding which to buy. Mikrotik/Ubiquiti/tplink. Connect ethernet cable to living room port.

Living room port 1
to Asus GT-BE98 for wireless throughout the house.

Living room port 2 for NAS with 2.5gbps connection.

Bedroom 2 PC with 10gbps card.( pending to buy the card)

Anything else I can do to optimise my setup and 10gbps experience. Thanks in advance.

No, this is usually not the way.
ONT --> Switch --> Router / NAS /PC

Usually you will need to go with the following option (Option 1 in the below FAQ)
ONT --> router --> Room LAN ports --> NAS/PC/etc

Or you can go with the following variation (Option 2 in the below FAQ).
ONT --> living room LAN port 1 --> main router --> living room LAN port 2 --> dumb switch in DB box --> Room LAN ports --> NAS/PC/etc.

There is a more complicated way (Option 3 in the below FAQ).
ONT --> managed switch 1 in DB box --> Ethernet Cable --> managed switch 2 in living room --> router in living room

If you do not want to put the good Asus GT-BE98 in the DB box but rather in the living room (central location), then you can try the FAQ here.

How to put the main wireless router in a central location and not the DB box?

Nice setup.

Post in thread 'WiFi 7 routers (including WiFi 7 routers without 6GHz band support)' https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...hout-6ghz-band-support.6905228/post-155424661

Just for sharing purpose. I migrated to SH 5Gbps plan from ST ONT 1Gbps plan since last month. While I could have gone with SH pair of EB810 and HB710 set up, but I prefer Asus but yet does not want to spend more. Since I had already planned a trip to China earlier this month, I took the opportunity to buy Asus BE-86U as main router and TUF BE-6500 as Aimesh to replace my current router set up. I eventually decided on BE86U instead of BE88U as I only needed a 2.5G LAN connection to my desktop pc in my bedroom. Even if I upgrade my pc in the future, I do not plan on having a higher NIC than 2.5G.

It was relatively easy to set up as the Web UI and Asus router app could be in English. As of today, after two weeks of usage, I am happy to report there was no issue pertaining with the two routers and connection speed was more or less similar to what was expected and reported. There were no dropped connections except for one morning whereby there was something wrong with the Nokia ONT and there were no broadband and digital voice connection. Reset of the ONT settled the issue so I think that was on SH.
