XGS-PON ONT vs XGS-POB ONR can affect your network configuration by a lot.

Just to add on, XGS-PON (ONT) is capable of 10Gbps. So basically there will be 1 10Gbps port in a ONT while the rest will not be used. In the case of an ONR, it will usually be 1x10Gbps and 3 or 4 1Gbps ports. depending on the ONR model.

This is an important info for many users, especially for those with a DB Box not in the central location (most likely cases for BTO flat).

1) XGS-PON ONT: single 10G port active, other 1G ports are disabled. Usually you will need to put a router in the DB Box to utilize the room LAN ports (there are workaround but may not be easy for average users). Most power users will go with ONT.

Important fact: you cannot put an unmanaged switch in between the ONT and the main router. That will not work.

2) XGS-PON ONR: single 10G port active, other 1G ports are also enabled. It will act as the main router for your home network. It usually has FW features than typical 10G capable consumer routers. Power users will usually avoid ONR or will bridge the ONR.

Some average users may like ONR due to the fact they can save a router in the DB Box.

3) More on ONT vs ONR

Hi guys i just moved in to a old 4rm resale flat a month ago.
Currently using singtel enhanced 2gbps contract expiring in 2 months. Signal in room is not that gd.

If I were to use 2 wired mesh, place one in room. The wires must run through hall? As my reno completed it dont prefer wires but wireless connection is bad.

Also to recontact singtel or starhub better? I'm using Lan for hall and one room for tv and laptop.
Pls advise. Thank you

Floor plan please, with details of the location of the Fibre Terminal Point, LAN ports in the rooms if any, current Singtel ONR location and the two nodes location.

Without the floor plan, difficult to help.

This is the link.
My lan is at Hall and master bedroom
Router is at Hall.
Carnt get Good connection at bedroom 3.
Can use "Ctrl + P" and insert the link so that it shows up in your post instead.
Much more convenient for everyone's reference.

Anyways, which part of the hall did you place your router at?
Along the main door wall I presume?

Having it on the Bedroom 2 and Living Room might provide better connectivity.
Since the Bedroom 3 & Living room is a solid wall from your floor plan.
Definitely will affect the connectivity strength.

Quite tough to place there, if I want to put wired mesh the wires will run from living room and visible?

lay fibre instead of copper. still visible, but much less so.
there are other benefits, but in your case, the main benefit is the lower visual "ugliness".

i just noticed you said it's a resale. got SCV connections? if yes, consider MOCA, possibly get around laying copper/fibre lines.

i just recontracted singtel 3gb and was given 2 HB611-SGST. what is the most optimal wifi settings that should be enabled or disabled?

previously was on 2 ac elite router on ap mode. but after changing to this new routers my older devices (1st gen ipad etc) are unable to connect to the 2.5g wifi unless i lower the security. and even after that my devices keep getting disconnected needing to disable and enable wifi again to reconnect.

i replaced the mesh at the same location as the old routers but the wifi at a room just directly above the router is only getting 4 bars instead of 5 last time. should I not enable wifi 6 and MLO? just feels like this router is a downgrade instead even though its newer

End device issue, too old already, 1st Gen iPad is ancient.
Cannot connect due to WPA-3? If so, change it to WPA-2 then should work fine. MLO can turn off since your devices I presume are old and not able to utilise too.
Why even go with Singtel in the first place though?

Hi all, ytd change my internet from 1gb to 10gb whizcomm then it comes with ONR and 2 nos of Deco BE25.

my old setup is ONR to one old Asus router as a network switch then I branch out to 2 deco m5 one in the living room and one in the bedroom

So my current setup I use the ONR connect to 1 no of BE25 I set as AP instead of router then from the BE25 I connect another wire to my backend then my backend come out another wire for the next BE25 to create a ethernet backhaul.

All my normal wireless devices I got no issue like phone and tv etc. but my house got those iot can only use 2.4ghz so at first I created a guest network with 2.4ghz a lot things connection got error and keep dropping from network.

Then I use the main network but turn off 5ghz to connect to those devices is can connect but also keep dropping from the network.

So my main question is setting got issues? Or signal got issue? Cause the main deco is the riser in the kitchen or is it those switching of nodes Ike mesh network causing all this?

Fibre → ONR → Deco 1 → (LAN1) → Deco 2
ONR → LAN2/3/4 → other devices
