Anyone likes Pinot Noir?

i think most do :D

it's not among my favourite but it's nice to drink. mainly because red burgundy (pinot noirs) are too expensive and some of the generic affordable new world pinots are not that great either.

but don't let my personal perference sway you, there are so many poeple (beginners to professionals) around the world who absolutely adore pinots.

pinot tends to be an expensive grape because it's a fickle grape and difficult to cultivate. but at the upper echelons it makes some of the world's best and most expensive wines, mostly from the region of burgundy where all their red wine is made from pinot noir.

which ones have u tried before?

Cornerstone Wines currently has a good offer for their 2011 Sauvignon Blancs.. Can go and get it before they take the offer off..

Just wondering: for new world wines how much of difference does the vintage have an effect on the quality and needless to say, price? I seldom see any significant price differences across the vintages for new world wines. Does that mean the quality is more or less the same?

I seldom see the price variance among entry to mid-tier products. At the higher scale there is definitely price variance. Similarly across higher end old world wines.

The other factor is definitely the weather. It seems that the weather in new world countries tend to be a bit more stable versus the European countries, which may even get risks of hail. There is the common saying that European winemakers are try hard to get their grapes as ripe as possible while New World wine makers try hard to make sure their grapes are not too ripe.

Ie: certain regions of Australia have been experiencing years of drought, hence the consistent ultraripe style of wines.

European weather just tends to be a bit more fickle.

I got mine from Enoteca, Takashimaya for $5 each.

Maybe I didn't ask nicely enough, but not many places gave them away for free, I've tried Crystal Wines, Culina Dempsey and 1855 Sixth Ave.

Caveau was nice enough to give me two, but that's at their now defunct discount store.

Maybe you can ask the supermarkets. FYI Wooden crates are more common at distributors of French and Italian wines, rather than the retail outlets.

Had a 99 Badia Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva tonight at La Barca, together with their superb steak, done Florentine style. Fruit is holding very well; altogether the wine was very well balanced and elegant in style. Not super complex but thoroughly enjoyable. Supposed to be a 90% Sangio +10% Caniolo blend, aged 24 months in Austrian and French oak. Classy wine from a historic estate - place was once a monastery - and now, an organic vineyard.

Call me a snob, but was a bit peeved when neighbouring tables asked for hot plates for their steak, because they found it the beef too raw. To each his own, but the restaurant ended up smoky like a Teppanyaki joint!

Hi all, I am having a dilemma now for the coming dinner this week with my partner. The restaurant has corkage charge of $45 per BYO bottle and I will like to bring a bottle of white which I think it will go very well with the dinner. But, the corkage of $45 costs almost the same cost as my bottle... Alternatively, corkage will be waived if I buy one bottle from them. The cheapest one costs ard $80 for some new world wines which I know the mark up is approx $50 per bottle.

Wat will u do in this case:
1) jus pay corkage to limit the damage of overpriced wine,
2) buy one cheapest (hopefully decent one) n bring home n drink my bottle. Save corkage but pay more eventually ....

Normally if i really have to pay..

1) bring a more expensive n better grade wine.

2) compare corkage + cost of my wine against theirs.. if the one i want from them more expensive by a lot.. i take mine along. If not go with theirs.
