Hello guys, i am new to this wine thingy. can anyone enlighten if these wine are consider good wine? Thanks.

Yeah, as ikileo mentioned, if these were kept at room temperature at >6 months, it's not likely they're still drinkable. Just pop one of them to try, since you've got a few. If they taste oxidised or overwhelmingly sour, they're probably done for.

It's ok. When it comes to wine especially of u are first starting out, don't worry so much if it's good deal or bad deal. As long as its within your budget

I know it's a very singaporean behaviour to try to squeeze out as much value from whatever we buy. But when it comes to wine have an open mind and tongue and try everything. Who knows? We may be wrong and that could be a spectacular bottle of wine for the price?

Try it for yourself. Open the bottle and let it breathe for like a half hour to and hour and drink it. It you have been storing it properly then it should be ok.

Let us know :)

check out the 1855 Bottle Shop FB page.

Dog Point tasting this saturday at their Triple 1 outlet. Taste their Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noir. The wine maker is coming down also. 1-5pm. but need to RSVP.

for those who attended the previous wine session with the sauvignon blancs, the Dog Point showed very well and a really good bang for the buck. for those of you who can make it, you should quickly RSVP and go down. i think it's free.

Had a few glasses of Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label champagne, lovely to share with a couple of friends over picnic. Friend bought it at around $187 if I remember correctly.

Are u sure the price is right? $187 is mightily overpriced for the yellow label.

got myself 2 bottles of the WEA launch of the Cirrus Syrah from South Africa. I've got quite a good experience with SA Syrahs.

I've tried a few SA Syrah but still think that their icon red is Cabernet/Bordeaux blend. What other nice SA Syrah you have tried?

Perhaps we can have a Syrah/Shiraz theme wines session in future as it is such a versatile varietal and great expression of terroir.

Got a bottle of Laugel Vin D'Alsace Sylvaner 2010 from Carrefour for $14.20. It's quite difficult to drink. What kind of wine is this...

what do u mean by difficult?
too dry? too acidic? too alcoholic? too mineral driven? etc...

it's made from the Sylvaner grape. and from the looks of it, it's probably and entry level wine from this producer in Alsace, france.

u can read more about it here: Silvaner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
it's not the most popular or most exciting grape as it tends to come across as 'meh', unless it's done by a good producer. personally i don't really buy sylvaner unless it's at the higher end.

that is indeed their flagship. and actually their cab franc blends are really good too. the Boschendal Grande Reserve (Cab franc dominant, cab sauv, merlot) was super good. https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=771473

as for syrah, i like those from the stellenbosch region. the Bellingham Shiraz (with a splash of viognier) is a good value shiraz IMO. lots of deliciousness and complexity with the price.

my colleague went to SA and bought for me a bottle of Syrah from Anura. Excellente!

The bellingham and boschendal can be bought from Cellarmaster and their retail outlet at TOTT.
