i was down at tampines 1 today, had some project to do there. walked into the basement of the new shopping centre. (couldn't really be bothered with uniqlo etc).
1st off, there is a Bottles & Bottles outlet there that have a decent number of 2005 vintage (supposedly one of the best vintages in the last century) grand cru, Cru Bourgeois and pomerol wines from bordeaux. for those who don't know, these are 4th growth wines and above (although pomerol doesn't have that kind of classification). either way, these are (supposedly on paper) wines of higher quality than the usual vin de pays (table wine) or bordeaux superior classification you get in most supermarket bordeaux. you can go google more about the classification or wiki it.
so either way bottles & bottles have several cases of those in their store selling for as low as $38, with most of the in the $40 and $50 region, which seems like a steal. but remember, do your homwork, don't just buy simply on the price and the 'brand name'. you can use cellartracker.com and check out the tasting notes of the wines, plus in the name of the wine and the vintage and you'll see what people write. don't care too much about the points, because it really is very subjective.
i will be going back down again tomorrow (for project) and pick up a bottle of white bordeaux wine, because they're so underrated and deserve more attention.
2) At the cold storage next dorr, something caught my eye. another supposedly pricier wine: 2005 Château Angelique de Monbousquet, Saint Emillon, Bordeaux going for 39 bucks instead of the usual 79 bucks. they're imported by auric wines who bring in quite a large number of premium wines. so i dunno why they suddenly want to sell so low, maybe they want to clear stock.either way i am very tempted to buy this however, from the tasting notes online that i read and researched on, this wine is highly tannic and would require more years of storage or several hours of proper decanting. so this is not a buy now drink now kind of wine. I am curious to see how this wine develops over the years.
ok, i'm done typing...long article. hope to get some feedback and so we can talk more about wine. i'm dying for a discussion.
