i've had several good reviews for this wine specifically. vintage reports are to be taken with a pinch of salt IMO. i've had lackluster 05 bordeaux; for me the truth is always in the bottle :) i'll wait another 10 years at least.

quick update...been very busy.

drank a 2006 Chateau de Fesles 'La Chapelle' Sec, Anjou, Loire, France. 100% chenin blanc. excellent, crisp, full of flavour and minerality. had a nice watermelon rind element to the nose as well.

also another 2006 Bellingham Shiraz Viognier, South Africa. Super awesome QPR at $18.50 during the wine fair. well balanced, very sexy nose with typical shiraz nose lifted with a floral and perfume aspect brought about by the viognier. excellent medium/heavy bodied wine. at 14% you can't feel the heat at all.

both wines were bought at Carrefour.

We drank the Bellingham at 'Saizeriya' in Liang Court. Only $5 corkage! affordable and hearty food. went well with the hamburger steak and pork. their stemware isn't exactly the best though, but it will do.

had Dim Sum lunch yesterday. My friend brought along a 2005 Tyrell's Stevens Semillon, Hunter Valley. Went very well with the various Dim Sum. only 11% alcohol but it was chock full of flavour. Free corkage!

quick update.

had dinner with friends at Bella Pizza, good stuff. Affordable for quality pizza.

My friend opened out a 2003 Urban Uco Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina

It had a nose of nice bright fruits, christmas fruitcakes and coffee.
The palate showed a balanced fruit forward wine. Tastes great, with very fine tannins. Good finish and enjoyable mid-palate. Went extremely well with the pizzas.

My friend got it for $30 at Carrefour.

May I know if they charge any corkage if BYOB ?

yes there is corkage unfortunately at $25.

but i put this in perspective. I wanted to drink wine there anyways so if I paid for corkage, it would be $25 shared among 4 people, bringing it to just above $6 a person.

the cheapest 'by-the-glass' wine they have is around $7 and I'd rather drink my own wine. Their cheapest bottle of house wine is about $40 and after that it shoots up to $60+ and onwards. So I figured paying for the corkage was the best thing to do as it is the 'cheapest'; provided u have friends to split it with.

Thank you for the info
But S$25 corkage for a S$30's btl...sounds not justified from my view.

add together is still cheaper than their wines. plus i am almost guaranteed that i will enjoy it as we have tasted this bottle before.

and even for the person who bought it, $30 + $6 (corkage per person) is still cheaper than a bottle of their cheapest house wine. So all in all, we still pay less for a wine that we know is going to deliver during dinner.

remember, all this is assuming that you are definitely going to open a bottle there no matter what.

get a bunch of friends, split the price of the bottle, split the corkage fee (if u are dining there) and you will pay lesser than buying any of their house wines.

Hi, so any chance for a drinking session this week? Weekdays evening time or weekends are fine with me. Like the idea of having food like pizza, steak, burgers, dim sum with wine! :D

theres an italian restaurant at portsdown road

all dishes are pasta, price is ok, <$20

they got simple sparkling wine to many diff kinds of wine.

u can BYO wine.

if u order 1 bottle, u can open ur 1 bottle w/o corkage charge

place called Sopranos

sometimes italian mob bosses dine there. occasional blood spatter from neighbouring table is inevitable

never tried Soprano before. always see it across the road when I dine at Pietrasanta. checked hungrygowhere, the reviews were less than encouraging though.

@beta_tester: its free corkage because of your voucher or its free corkage all the time?

Either way, if we were to do it, we can only do it next week 'cos this week i am down with some virus. don't wanna spread it to you guys.
