Haven't had the Banfi, though I bought a 2006 bott on this trip.
Not sure if I should generalise, but as Brunellos go, they should be very aromatic on the nose, especially for a 2004; dense and powerful dark fruits with firm tannin, and great depth. Ideal for pairing with heavy meats like steak etc.

Recommended to decant or bottle breathe for at least two hours.

yeah, at these kind of restaurants you will pay through your nose to bring your own wine.

as for the wine outing, timing is not 100% confirmed but interested parties seem to be:

weekday is no-go for me unfortunately, so we would have to stick with weekend timings.

how about the rest?

I am also thinking about some theme for the white. Since it's only 4 of us, it will be 2 whites with Dim Sum.

Possible themes:
- Rieslings from diff countries
- Oaked and Unoaked Chardonnay
- Uncommon Whites
- France vs NZ Sauvignon Blanc
- Non-Champagne Sparkling

do let me know.

I saw a couple having dinner in Triple one fastfood section y'day and enjoy white wine with nice glasses and shiny ice bucket...I asked a staff there if those provided by them...eventually, understand they are BYOB + BYOG (quite usual) and BYOIB . What a passion for wine drinking. :)

Dropped by Ponti after work since it's near my office.

Like the lemony + toast bouquet of the Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Chard, but the acids are a little sharp on the palate. Definitely it will gobetter with some food.

All the reds are pretty decent with lively strawberries bouquet and smooth tannins.

Hi Kangzkangz! That was my first time having to taste Burgundy wines. I have never tasted wines which were so full of complexity but intriquing at the same time.:s22:

BTW, Ponti Wine Cellars is having a Italian tasting on this coming Thursday evening between 6.30pm to 8pm. An exclusive brand, INAMA from Veneto:

1) Inama Soave Classico Vin Soave DOC 2009

2) Inama Vigneti Di Foscarino Soave Classico DOC 2008

3) Inama Carmenere Piu Veneto IGT 2007

4) Inama Bradissimo Veneto Rosso IGT 2006

5) Inama Oratorio Di San Lorenzo Veneto Rosso IGT 2006

Anyone interested?
Kangzkangz? You are coming right?

Salt! Always wanted to try but fully booked each time I asked. Ambience must have been fantastic, ya?

A good, value-for-money place for steak I've found is Salta Parilla Bar & Grill at Icon Village, Tanjong Pagar. Opened by Far East, they use Argentine beef, which is supposed to be grass fed and free range. Prices for steak are about $30-45 with GST. Sweeteners are that they don't hv service charge, and you get to taste some decent Argentine wines at acceptable prices. Malbecs need no introduction, but I think their Cab Sauvs are very good value too.

At the price for the kind of beef, when compared to easily $50 for USDA Prime beef at steak places here, I think it's a fair price. Just a piece of advice, may have to communicate to them exactly how you want the steak done - the two times I've been - albeit over span of a few months - once it was overcooked and once it was too raw (even for me). Think the Argentines have a different understanding of how cooked beef should be, as do every beef-loving country.

Sorry for the OOT. No, I don't work for the place, I just dig the Argentine concept amidst a slew of Aussie, US, steak restaurants.

As for the dimsum lunch, I'm ok with Sat, Sun lunch.

Yup, a theme for the white wines sounds fun.
I have in my fridge at the moment a few different Rieslings and Gewurzs, as well as Aus Sauv Blanc, Semillion, Chard and Sem-Chards. Yet to find an occasion to try some of them so I'm open to options.

If there are only a few of us, are you all open to inviting partners? My wife's always game for good food and drink outings. I'm cool if you all just want to keep it simple though!

yeah i have drunk there before. BYOG, BYOB.

As for wine bucket, maybe they got it from the Imperial Treasure Steamboat that's next door.

The tomato baked rice with pork goes remarkable well with many Shiraz/Syrah

I suppose that ice bucket from 1855, it was shiny beautiful glass or acrylic looks very beautiful when beads of dew still clung to it.

Steamboat should have those made by metal.. :)
