Bought a bot of 2006 Valdicava BdM from Hermitage Wines on this special day of 11.11.11 :D Will save it for next 2021.11.11 perhaps ;)
Maybe even 2031! Love BdMs, am reading the tasting notes... this looks to be one helluva wine.

Was waiting for a friend's reply to go for Musar, maybe I could have been the tipping vote, sorry to sabo hehe...if we have a sufficient number, would it be possible to ask them to have it again?

Should taste great! Langmeil is a consistently good producer.

The bottle looks really pretty. Am a bit worried about the sweetness, we'll see. If this is good it could be a great Christmas gathering option.

i don't think you should worry, the wine should live up to their 'live wire' name, full of acid!

Yesterday I spoke to one of the staff on lack of response on Musar tasting. They are considering postpone the tasting but problem is even they postpone the tasting but will they get enough participants? I tend to agree with them and that is very embarrassing if you have to cancel the tasting you have postponed once. Last heard around 10 or less ppl signed up for the tasting...

If you guys are like me so keen to try Ch Musar I can source for few bottles of Musar and we can have a mini Ch Musar tasting. No. of bottle depend on no. of pax and we share the cost.

this is something i find interesting. i am under the assumption that the clientele of Crystal Wines tend to skew more to those who have some experience with wine and are typically keen on trying new stuff and not nervous wine novices.

$28 for a Musar vertical is a STEAL IMO, so I don't think cost was a barrier but rather the lack of interest. Perhaps i'm biased but i think lots of local consumers (even experienced ones) want to keep to the tried and tested regions (Bdx, Burg, Aussie, NZ...and that's it - even italian not so much) rather than seek out other types of interesting wines from other regions. So i think it's a comfort zone issue rather than a price issue.

don't get me wrong, i do have not issues with these regions and they make spectacular wine, but the Musar tasting (to me) is a clear reflection of the consumption pattern of the local consumer. And Musar is not exactly an unknown producer, it had loads of great press over the years.

what do you guys think? maybe i'm just pissed i don't get to drink a Musar.

As a fine wines seller, I agree that Crystal's clentele are more on those wines drinkers who have some experience but these ppl are too hold on to their wines preference especially French wines. I agreed local consumers usually keep to the tried and tested regions too.

I always sign up for their wines tasting session so I noticed that their French wines tasting session are likely to be successful but wines tasting on other countries usually lack of interest. Just look at the recent tasting Ch Musar and '06 Brunello were forced to cancel but Bordeaux '08 Left Bank and Right Bank (2 separate session) were carried out last month. Many times I see some interesting tasting session I really love to join but in the end it did not materialise.

That is definitely not the cost issue. Perhaps Crystal need to put more effort to market/advertise their wines tasting to gain more interest from ppl.

i don't think putting priority in additional marketing funds for lesser known region and wines would be a business decision Crystal would consider. for wine geeks (not just consumers) they would love to see it happen and i'm sure some of their staff would feel the same way, but the easiest way to meet their sales targets would be to push the easy favourites like France and Aussie fine wines, sadly :(

Although one can say word still got out sufficiently for the Bordeaux tastings, I still feel that the marketing word could have been better spread for CW's wine tastings. I'm a big fan of digital media, be it EDMs, FB, Twitter shoutouts, and though I know the mature (elder) drinking set may not be too into this, at least it can pull the yuppie crowd; like you said, something like Ch Musar is well-revered throughout the wine world, so there's gotta be at least a curious crowd.

Anyways, this end-year sale season is killing all those without a decent wine acquisition strategy ie. peeps like me. And we're not even into December yet! I hear there are sales going on at distributors like Auric and SUTL this weekend, though I haven't gone to such sales before, so no idea if there are really good deals there.

Btw anyone tried Fonty's Pool wines before? Selling at Wine Connection and apparently a collaboration using Fonty's Fruit and Cape Mentelle winemaking.
Also, while spotting for deals on the Caveau sale sheet, noticed this '08 Joseph Matrot Bourg Blanc; reading the CT reviews, seems like a good deal at 30 bucks. Anyone tried?

WOah, it's absolutely pouring out here in the West. Not the best day to be out and about.
Did a little reading, just realised SUTL and Auric are pretty much responsible for a good 80 to 90% of the wines you see in the supermarkets.. from Penfolds, Lindemans to Marquis de Riscal, Bleasdale etc for SUTL, to Mondavi, Cono Sur, Nederburg and Kim Crawford etc for Auric.
There's also a Asia Wine Society (AWS) Open House. Anyone heard of them, besides the ads?

Didn't really like it that much. In the end it wasn't very sweet but I found it more like a moscato than a riesling. Maybe cos I've gotten used to the clean, delicate and mineral flavours of German rieslings..

Haven't really looked at the ads for promos. I don't need to buy anymore haha.

As for fonty's pool, I only tried one of their whites two years back. Was a bit 'meh' for me. U could try their other varietals though.

I got a qns. The wines I got frm spy vallery show that they been bottle in sept '11. It is still very young to drink now as the labels says that the wine can cellar for 2 to 3 years.cos I want to taste the favor of the wine not the alc.

'meh' like uninteresting and average. at least for the varietal and that vintage.

IMO i think it's rather young. it may still have a bit of bottle shock since it was bottled barely 2 months back and shipped over to SG. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottle-shock)

you could open it immediately, but give it at least half a year to a year to settle down and integrate a little.

HI guys

I just got this, promo from groupon, I intend to maybe.. ( if the price is ok) to purchase a bottle of wine. Pinot Noir for the duck confit. Will the wine goes well with Beef? i read some other food pairing they pair the duck with the pinot noir, not so sure on the beef, as i think most wine shd be ok with beef

http://www.groupon.sg/deals/singapore/-35-for-3-course-meal-with-signature-duck-confit-or-braised-beef-cheek-at-the-tastings-room-in-marina-square--worth--70/715900187

Thanks for the link! JUST NICE! :D

Ps: looking at the price of the menu, the outing at savuer is STEAL!
