Propose Dated: Saturday 30th June. Dinner.

Are you guys ok with it? Let me know your attendance or whether we should do another date?

Oops forgot about the 'mainstream' varietals criteria, I had my eye on the Brown Brothers Chenin Blanc. Back to the drawing board..

Btw I can't make it on 30 Jun and 7 Jul, but if most of you guys can only make it these days, then please go ahead.

U can trying who this wholesaler is and speak directly to them to see if u can negotiate. Sometimes it works for me. Come up with some story about how much u like it but can't commit to do much.

For the others who are interested in the next session let me know which date is good for u. We're hoping more more peeps.

Hello guys. Anyone has recommendations for a cheap wine chiller (ie. up to 8 bottles) that is environmentally friendly and doesnt consume too much electricity?

ok guys, for the next session with the under $30 supermarket wines, i have proposed this location.

it's at a kopitiam, nothing glamourous, like our wines; but the food we will be eating is from De Burg. An awesome burget joint located in a kopitiam. it's opposite Ikea.

119 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-40 Singapore

De Burg Food and Drink Private Limited - Food/Beverages - Singapore, Singapore | Facebook
ieatishootipost blogs Singapore's best food: De Burg: Puts most restaurant Burgers to shame
De Burg (Bukit Merah) - Singapore Food Reviews, Promotions and Information
four legged foodies: De Burg, Bukit Merah (opposite IKEA)

The 4th link has pictures of their menu. Since it's a kopitiam, we would have to bring our own stemware.

So the theme would be:

"Supermarket Wines of Common Varietals under $30"

Guidelines:
- Supermarkets are limited to the usual supermarket chains including Sheng Siong and Carrefour
- Varietals will be limited to Shiraz/Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Bordeaux Blends, Chardonnay, Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc
- The price of $30 is original price. If the item is under $30 on a discounted price but the original price is more than $30 it doesn't count.

Don't feel stifled too much by the guidelines, they are there to keep things interesting and to locate 'true' values. I encourage all of you to bring the 'best' wines you can find within these guidelines.

Propose Dated: Saturday 30th June. Dinner.

Are you guys ok with it? Let me know your attendance or whether we should do another date?

I can't make it on 30th as going for corrine may concert..

Can we tweak it a little?
Supermarket wine, under $30, but not limited to any grape varietal?
Who knows what surprises we may find!

Just a suggestion...

we can expand the varietal list but i would refrain from a 'any varietal' to keep with the theme of helping the average casual wine consumer pick something he/she is familiar with.

we can always do a 'anything goes' kind of tasting which we did for the previous ones.

u can suggest additional varietals if you'd like. carmenere? malbec? semillon?

from CT, the producer looks decent.

as for aging potential, IMO Loire dry SB is best enjoyed in it's youth; anywhere between 1-6 years; but u know this is a very rough gauge.

but the high end ones can definitely have aging potential 10-15 years if u can wait that long. but personally i like it when it's fresh, fruity and vibrant. not everything has to be old and textured.

Yes to increasing the varietals, no to making it an unlimited list.. Agreed that there should be some boundaries to the grapes. Some suggestions:

White: Semillon, riesling, chenin blanc
Red: Malbec, carmenere, pinot noir

How?
