Guys, according to weather forecast in Tokyo during Jan, its about 4-10 deg cel. But non of the web telling me how strong is the wind. My last experience at Seoul is that though it is abt 10-15deg but due to strong wind, its freezing cold.

So I wonder can I just buy the uniqlo heatech shirt coupled with the down jacket and survive it?

Think you'll need at least 3 layers. I was in Osaka last week; temperatures were around 5 - 15. I wore a long sleeve shirt, a down vest, and an ultra light down jacket. Thought it was just right. Bottom I wore the warm lined pants; they were awesome! (http://www.uniqlo.com/sg/store/men/bottoms/pants.html) Later bought another pair of the warm lined pants from Aeon there at about S$22. I'll never wear jeans for winter again.

Get a wool cap to cover the head and ears. Windproof gloves is good.

Depends on your own resistance also. Few months ago I was in the mountains in Hokkaido with strong winds and <10deg. For me heat tech long sleeve plus heat tech vest was good enough. For my wife, she have to wear that plus winter jacket wrap up like Eskimo.

This kind of thing depends on individual tolerance... but usually the standard recommendation is 3 layers - base layer (e.g. heat tech), mid layer (e.g. sweater) and outer layer (e.g. jacket). Some people are very used to the cold, so they can wear a t-shirt while others are shivering in 3 layers.

Layering is the way to go.. else when you are indoors, you will be damn hot. i usually remove jacket indoors.. and if still warm, remove sweater. :)

prepare lots of heat pack if you are those really scared cold kind... paste one on ur back, one near ur heart... and put inside ur gloves haha.

Twiced I went to Osaka n Kyoto during march and once I even saw snow. I dun recall much but I know my hand freezing hence I bought the glove which I'm having now. But as for wearing, let me dig back my pic. If I recall correctly only normal jacket with polo shirt. Lol

uniqlo used to have a range of jeans that is windproof... dunno still have or not.

but feb is deep into winter, going to be cold. windproof jeans more early dec or late march kind of weather where it is not so cold
