ANybody can advise if they have encounter audio problems on VStarcam H6837WI? Be it you try to on the "listening" or "mic" function. Have very loud echo sound thus making it unusable at all.

help - which ip cam should i buy?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to IP cameras and have a few stupid questions...
- IR cams means the led light will be switched on at night?
- which router works best for adsl for 10 cameras?
- can i mix and match different brand cameras and still use the same interface?
- for the user interface, can i set multi level passwords which has viewer access to different cameras?
- are IP cameras as reliable as CCTVs/conventional methods?

Looking to hook up 10 cameras of varying capabilities..
- fixed with zoom or PTZ
- outdoor with IR ie waterproof

All must have direct storage to NAS, SD card recording.

i noticed quite a lot of people use vstarcam - is that significantly more superior than Dlink's IP cameras? i see that some Dlink cameras can be $1K like 5-7x most cameras' prices. Can someone pls enlighten me why the price differential?

Thanks!!!

Hi, I'm setting up 4 ip cameras. The cameras should have H264 or mpeg4 (I think not enough bandwidth for 4 cameras?), good to have IR light at night, and allow to be recorded (jpeg or video).

My comp is not that fast though, any recommendations for ip cam recording software?

The camera budget is about 400 each. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

It's true that movement on the iPhone is slow. I doubt subscribing for a higher speed 3G plan can solve the problem if WiFi also produces slow response.

For home surveillance, especially maid abuse, it's always good to have video recording. In case if you're suspicious of maid abuse then record the video as evidence. Even if you happens to see your maid abusing your kid remotely without evidence it's difficult to prosecute her, if necessary. You can record and then playback the video daily at the end of the day or once a week depending on situation.

Nobody has the time to sit in the office the whole day just looking at the PC/iPhone to monitor their maid.

Even when i play back the movie that i recorded in both my QNAP & SYNOLOGY NAS the vstarcam H6837WI movement is also slow & choppy. Ppl should stay away from this cam

Does the video appear slow and choppy if you watch it live or via an app? How about using wired instead of wireless? What wireless router are you using? What speeds are your camera connecting? If you move your phone/laptop/tablet next to the camera, what speeds are you connecting to the wireless router?

Bro, what's the fps you are getting from the cameras? Try installing the Super IP Camera Client and link to your cameras to find out.

My experience of recording Foscam & VStarcam on both NAS is that wired connection gives u more (22-25) fps and video will be better. Over wireless, the fps (2-15) is bad for both brands.

VStarcam's own recording to their MicroSD Card is ok, and if you had tried recording to Local PC feature, its good (with audio if you triggered the listening mode). QNAP & Synology NAS can record from both cameras, using /video.cgi & /videostream.cgi, but it is not the optimised setting. Not sure if both NAS manufacturer will improve on this or not. :p

Heard that new firmware is coming out in 2 weeks time for VStarcam H6837WI, got an email from MARIX that improvement for playback will be done that we can do playback on common media players (.avi format) rather than the raw format they are having now.

Sound wise for VStarcam, it seems that I do encounter the same at times for my Foscam. Loud echo, ringing. This happens if I had both 2-way communication on. Remember in school, when mic is in front of the speaker? Its the same theory. :D

For 10 cameras, wireless wise will be too much to handle. Consider LAN
cabling instead. Mix n match wise, personally I haven't came across any. The thing is, each brand has their own propietary software, no one will want to pick up problems from another brand if its not their fault. So, you should consider pick single brand solution instead.

I'm ok with both Foscam n VStarcam so far. Previously was using D-Link's DCS-5220, but gave up and changed to foscam plus VStarcam range instead due to lower cost and better features for much lesser pricing.

Anyway, if spoilt after one year, just throw and replace again.

You mean something like SONAR sound while using the MIC? So far, we
have receive reports from some users on this and have reported to the
factory to investigate. None have reported that LISTEN will also trigger sonar
sound.

BTW, which firmware are you using currently?

We have today email out to our clients the newest firmware for the camera.
0.155, which have bug fix on the recording and playback (10x)

Hi Archer, it appears choppy when i watch the video from file recorded to both NAS. Using wireless to my ASUS RT-N56U. Speed is around 135 kbps & framerate 22.3. I have no issues viewing in IE explorer and IP Camera super client. Only recorded video is very choppy. I have no such issues with the foscam on wirless also.

I have the same encounter too with vstarcam.

I thot the mic and the cam were too close to each other.

Still the same problem after I moved the mic to the room while keeping the cam in the living.

However, this to me is not a major bug.

Hope that Marix could feedback to the manufacturer to improve the product.

One of the cheapest I have encountered is Aztech WIPC-302 Ipcam. Less than $80. Comes with both wire & wireless function. 2 yrs warranty if I am not wrong.

Bro,

They heard us... Just that this week they were so busy with renovation and moving of their office to Northstar. Understand that their DEMO unit will be 24x7 from now onwards.

They have highlighted the reported issue back to the manufacturer, seems that the other brand they are carry, audio also have some issue with loud ringing after a while when MIC and SPEAKERS are turned on the camera itself. Camera design problem? Perhaps... LOLz...

Just have to wait bah... Think they will update us soon.

its a little light grey/brown speck at the base, inside on of those ventilation slots, closer to outer edge, use a pen tip to reach, hold for 10 sec.
