Wanna buy 1 cheapo cam to test out whether can monitor the kid's homework, learning at hme doable or not.

Wats is the cheapest IP Cam i can get on the market? Nothing special nor recording nor audio require. Just visual monitoring will do, wanna watch over my kids and tell them "to do HOMEWORK!!! STOP TV!! etc etc :D

My mum is always in the house but she kinda have no control over my kid after school. -_-:

If ok, might wanna invest 2 better cams with recording motion detection function.

But must the cam be able to play audio, ie. you saying "do homework!" and "stop tv!"? :s13:

lol! am not sure about cheapo IP cams as I have never researched on cheapo ones... only know that the D-Link fixed cam range is not bad. My office uses the DCS-930.

EDIT: P.S. wouldn't it be more fun if you could scold them via the webcam :p

Hi all, thanks to the reviews and feedback here on the Vstarcam, I finally got the T7837WIP today.

Have just set it up real quickly, and was looking at the manual but cannot find anything about remotely accessing the camera via browser? Eg. if I want to check on my home while at work. Is there no way to do that?

Yes you can. All you need to do is to attach a speaker to the IP camera, and use an app that allows 2 way talking. Of course your camera model must support 2 way talking. I regularly barked into my mobile phone to get my kids to behave (eat quickly or you miss the school bus, practice your piano, no jumping on the sofa, no watching TV etc.). Also last time I was traveling, the hotel I was in provides free Internet, and I was able to speak to my wife at night.

Bro, if you had read my earlier postings on the VStarcam series of cameras. Port forwarding is required if you want to view on web browsers over the internet. But if uPnP is working on your router. You might not need to do anything more. FYI, factory DDNS by default is disabled in all the T Series. You need to manually enable it via webUI.

So, how to get to the camera's webUI over the internal LAN? Go to their cd.gocam.so > select T Series (Pangolin PnP), scroll down and click on download next to IP Camera Finder. Activate it and you will see your camera within the LAN. Select the camera and click on OPEN next to inner access. It will launch in web browser (Pls make sure you use IE as default browser)

Users for IE10 should use compatibility mode cos I think the ActiveX under IE10 may not be functioning too well under the new browser. Your login name default is "admin", default password is "888888".

At selection menu, select For ActiveX Mode (IE). Click on the last icon at the bottom right side panel (Configuration Page). Then expand Network Settings > DDNS Settings. Enable the Factory DDNS.

Your external web access will then be the url shown for The Remote URL.

Hope this explains in details liao.

FYI, last time, my dlink office's ADSL DSL-2740B managed to allow us to access the cameras without the port-forwarding, but later, the upnp failed to work and we cannot access anymore.

So, you need to do port forwarding. Alternatively, install the IP Camera Super Client (known as Management Software for PC) in the cd.gocam.so, you just need to key in the UID on the external computer and you should be able to view the camera without problem just like your mobile phone over 3G.

BUT!!! If you work in a corporate environment where FIREWALL rule is strict. Only certain ports are open for external access like financial sector. You will not be able to use the office WIFI to view as it will be BLOCKED.

LOLz... I used SKYPE back then before facetime was available. More reliable than any IP Cameras. The IP Cameras were only used by me for secret monitoring of my maids and my dogs

FYI, I've released my PART 1 review on the VStarcam T7833WIP.

Part 1 talks more about the camera size, its specs, basic setup for viewing and locating the microSD Card slot.

I'll do more reviews later on the 3X OPTICAL ZOOM Clarity, etc later. Gonna sleep liao... I'm a bit turn off by the color actually for the camera at this moment. Go check it out on MARIX's vstarcam BlogSpot. Google it please.

I cannot paste link here. Later ganna SHOOT by moderators. :s13:

Thanks Gecko. Marix probably needs to do an official write-up on this.

I went through your steps and entered the url shown, but got the message "The server at *** is taking too long to respond." Any ideas?

Bro, in fact, they are... trying to make everything small and compact and put into the box instead of over the web. There are many people who buys from other sources but expect MARIX to give details and help on the product. Disgusting if you ask me.

BTW, update your post above please. remove your actual URL before some naughty people try to access your cameras...

Do change your default password away too.

For your info, access URL should be SN.gocam.so, where SN is the serial number on your box as in what you have keyed in on the top.

Part 2 of my review is out. It is a preliminary review base on play around the camera concept after setup. Not into detailed tests yet.

Maybe I am too demanding or my expectation is high. This T7833WIP resolution does not look as sharp as I thought it would. I'm gonna do further tests to find out.

I did a simple short comparison of the cam in daytime, overcast weather, night time with white lighting and IR mode. So you guys can go check it out, I've read the post, nothing was filtered out. Exact words that I have submitted. I'll be doing further testing on the camera this weekend n using the V6834W as my reference in the zooming

Understand that the cameras will be released next week for Demo perhaps if anyone is keen on it, but must register with Marix (for local market only) via email.

Just a reminder to all users of IP Cameras to change the default login password for your devices...

There appears to be some security issues affecting such cameras lately.
This security vulnerability was actually discovered earlier this year.

Kindly check with your respective manufacturers if your IP Cameras are affected.

Folks,

Need your advices. My son is sleeping with us thus without thinking, I installed my IP cam in the master bedroom.

Now come to think of it, is it safe i mean our privacy...

How safe is IP cam as does it gets hack in easily ?

Pardon me if this is a stupid question.

I have drilled hole and laid trunking to cover the wires nicely thus if need to take down will really be a hassle.

Hianz.

Always change your password. And of cos you must remember not to release your camera's URL to anyone. If your mobile devices have been lost. Changed details of your cameras immediate.

Yah, I read about that article. Scary. Imagine they say about 90% or more users are on unpatched firmware...
