Depends... NAS recording comes in 2 parts. CAM define path n push info to the network share or propietary app like surveillance station on synology tat grabs feeds from cam, this way Offloading the cameras' processor since the control of recording to where is done by NAS.

Hi everyone,

I am planning to install some IP cameras for my new house. Just wondering, can anyone recommend a totally wireless IP camera (no power cords or PoE)?

I like the netgear vuezone but the video quality a bit too low for my liking. Are there other alternative?

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Errr.. U wanna customized n do battery pack yourself? Then hook up to solar panel? But u will still see cables. End up your solution will look like those temp setups located along the highway...

Thanks. Well, my req'ments are pretty basics and most of the IP cameras in the budget range of below $150 from Vstarcam, Aztech and Dlink would meet most my needs:
To be more specific:
1. Pan and tilt camera with night mode
2. Recording ability to NAS and/or micro SD card
3. resolution min SD or 720P
4. Zoom(optional)
5. Easy setup
6. clear images viewed on phone.

As I've a DLink 320 at home....obviously a IP camera tat can record to NAS will be great to hve.

If minus NAS recording, go for vstarcam, easy setup. Marix trying to push for network path recording. Hope the factory is willing to listen

Yes, vstarcam and Aztech is my primary focus. Dlink came into the pix bec of claims tat can record to NAS......which turn out to be 1/2 true. Right now, I've a Aztech entry level IP cam but no recording.....except to phe; bought it as my newbie intro to IP camera. Would hve love to join ur MO for 7833....but on a tight budget. Well, another 3 mth wait...who knows.....budget IP camera with NAS recording might just start appearing :D.

I started to think that , actually going for an IP Camera that can record to NAS is a good idea, in case of camera damage by theft or stolen, i still get a backup clip inside NAS

Reasons for thinking of recording to NAS are...besides ur reason:
1. Not limited by SD card capacity
2. Videos can be directly extracted/play fm NAS.
3. maximise usage of NAS :D.

Oh. My MO diff. These r outdoor 3 x Optical zoom cams.

:)

Hi brother geckoSG

I'm keen to join your MO for the VStarCam 7833. Your PM is full, so I thought I drop a note here.

Hope I am not too late. Or are you still needing to meet the MOQ?

Yes. But remember, it will utilise your network bandwidth too. :)
Good point :D.......but I think should not be an issue if recording is set to capture only the needful.....not 24x7.....and even if it's set 24x7......if hve fibre.....impact should not be significant...imho.

The bandwidth impact is not between your mobile device and the home router, but between the IP camera and the home router. Imagine... the IP camera has to send one stream to your mobile device (via the router), and another stream to the NAS (via the router).

Bear in mind that most IP cameras are single stream 1T1R. On N standard, the PHY link rates are 150 Mbps, but in practice, the speeds usually only about 20% of the link rates (depending on distance between camera and wireless router). If you use wire for your camera, most cameras come with only Fast Ethernet ports rather than Gigabit ports.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but if I understand ur comment, u're referring to the limitation/ability of IP camera transmitting the data to both the NAS and phone....wirelessly?

Been a quiet observer mostly for years inside this forum. however, i think i need to give my good reviews for a well deserved product.

Given that my FDW had been sent back due to problems faced during our absence, my family decided to install cameras to give us the flexibility expected of IP Cameras.

Went to Funan Challenger today intending to purchase T7837 but upon reaching there...we ended up buying a set of T7838 to trial the "better lens" camera.

The cashier at the Funan outlet actually forgot (or didn't know) that the camera is supposed to come with a 3m extension cable. I ended up driving back to Funan and paying ERP again upon realising it when arrived at home carpark.

Nevertheless, after dinner, i set about reading the instructions card and "Viola", my IP camera is installed in less than 2 mins...reason being that i had already downloaded the VSCAM app for the purpose of trialing the video resolution of the "toilet door".

Next, i completed installing my family's 2 other phones and even got about renaming the camera to living room. MY family are ultra pleased with what we purchased and will be going about to buy more sets for the rest of the house (HDB).

All in all, i have to say that the installation process is really very "idiot proof" and as per what most pple's comments here "PnP"!!!

Lastly, would still need to read up a bit to see how to upgrade my firmware as well as reading up the advance menu downloaded after registering.

Marix: I was wondering if there is a bundle pack if i were to buy 3 or 4 cams in a row? Would there be any discount?

Yup, ur ip cam will transmit data to ur nas for recording, when u login to view, it will translate data out. More people view, more bandwidth taken up.
