Got 50K one.....u never ask, by default will give u 10K one.

Ask u all huh...i last time go change....all the 50K got a smiling stamping on it. why huh?

didn't see any smiling stamping unless i missed it.

why default give 10k :( not used to it. those currencies i changed before some are the other extreme, €100, HKD1000, damn hard to use in small places.

others like twd, jpy, thb were in reasonable denominations.

Assuming the rates are better in korea and i intend to change like $25k to KRW, will it be dangerous to be seen exchanging so much there? Or better to go to a bank? Are rates good at the local bank there?

orh..... haha i think they don't want to keep the small notes also, so many pcs, so troublesome.

i guess i will use the 10k notes to pay for my hotel to get rid of some.

I went to google and saw some comments online that banks can give better rates than the street side money changers in Myeongdong. Anyone has this experience?

I went to see the FX rates on some of the banks' website and am confused by their rate table. They put a higher KRW amount under the buy column than the sell column. For example in this link http://www.shinhan.com/websquare/we...th=/contents/common/exchange_list_eng_pop.xml, buy SGD 880.77 and sell SGD 845.57. Which means change 1 SGD give you 880.77 KRW but you only need 845.57 KRW to exchange back 1 SGD?? Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

Banks do give higher rates than street side moneychangers. Can even negotiate with the bank manager if you're changing big amounts.

So far I haven't seen banks having better rates than the money changers at myeongdong... tho I only change like $1k or so. Banks will never do anything that is not beneficial to them so I think it's you gotta use 1SGD to buy 846KRW and 880KRW to buy 1SGD. Myeongdong money changer's rate is 858 today

Most money changers in Myeongdong suck.... Only the embassy one has rates better than Singapore. I posted a pic of the shopfront a couple of pages back. Pls do not simply visit a money changer in Myeongdong thinking it's the same, it's not, most are out to shortchange, the only one that offers high rates is the one at the China Embassy.
