Wow!! Now I'm inspired to re-dye my shoes too... How long did it take you to remove the color?

i did it in using 3 layers of saphir decepant with 1 hour in between waiting for them to dry. You can accelerate the process of drying though by blowing fan directly at them.. probably 30mins in this case..

I used saphir decapant... For captoe area if decapant is not strong enough, I will use acetone but mixed with some water to ensure it is not strong enough to harm the leather..

Wonder how that smells. Renomat got me gagging already :s13:

Time to play with my own pair of LLYR DMs :s13:

To touch on shoe repairs/sole protectors. The handiwork of Masterfix is as per above.

Top image is of the replacement heel block. Not withstanding comments about me needing to learn how to walk properly, the rubberhas nearly worn off after less than 3 months of use at a frequency of 3x/week max.

Bottom image is of the sole protector. The vibram has simply been stuck over the sole, without sanding down the leather sole to ensure the vibram is flush with the rest of the shoe.

Masterfix is more expensive than your average cobbler and does not offer any signficant value to justify their price. Not reccomended.

Friendly reminder to take good care of your shoes in this rainy period.

I just had my uppers soaked through because I was caught in the rain while returning back from lunch. I think I'm going to waterproof the uppers over the weekend.

Do u get the problem of fungus growing on your soles after walking thru the rain? I should probably air them in the open instead of putting them in the shoe cabinet right away.

Just dry as per normal

But our humidity is more or less around 78-90% so cant really help it unless you want to invest in desiccants.

Wow....that's is just plain sloppy/lazy work. Not a single fug given by the cobbler. How much do they charge?!

Below by Solemann. $25-27

IIRC they charge slightly under $50. Very expensive. It seems like that's the way they're trained to do it though. I've been to different Masterfix outlets and they all simply glue the vibram over.

Shukey is $20+ and they sand down the sole so it's flush, similar to your photo.

I can only hope Tampines 1 Shukey will do a proper job. If not I rather go to the Bishan cobbler that most of you guys recommend.

renomat can strip colors like saddle soap and decepant ?

Saddle soap is just to remove any impurities like dust and dirt on the shoe you want to strip. Bear in mind that any cream and wax you have put on will be removed as well. And of course to take away any foul smell if you are getting a second hand shoe to try patina...

renomat can only remove the existing cream and wax you have built up over the course of polishing with a stronger turpentine effect over renovator. No renomat can't strip off colour completely....

To strip off colour completely, only decapant can do the job...

If you over saturate it you might damage the colour esp if dyr job is low quality. If you read the other thread about leather shoes one such member managed to successfully strip some of the original colour on his rad russells through careless overyse of renomat.
