thanks! his RTW looks really nice! pricing seems ok too especially for the oxfords, though shipping is a little expensive. any sense of his sizing? :)

I'm really not sure tbh, but some guy on SF who has had some experience with his RTW gave some sizing recommendations. Seems to fit TTS for standard width.

congrats. those were my first pair of formal gyw shoes too. toppied them at kips n kwip
Actually should I Topy them after wearing a while or should I do it straightaway? Searched around online but it seems inconclusive - some say straightaway while others say wear it a few weeks first.

Since those r gyw shoes, why toppy them? just wear till soles are crap and re-sole if they r ex enough. Toppied shoes would surely lose their original balance rite?

For me personally it's due to the grip. I walk a lot and because Singapore's weather is quite unpredictable I don't want to slip and fall lah :)

recommendation

hi guys, i have a pair of LLYR and Church's gyw shoes currently. don't really like the LLYR as they were a pain (literally) to break in. my wife is going to Milan next week for a business trip. do you have any recommendations on any good shoe brands there for a pair of rtw under $500?

I think there hasn't been a consensus because to a large extent it's down to preference :s13: Either way they're gonna sand down the sole a little to allow the topy to be pasted on.

I get a headache reading A.M. technical notes on construction. Must study it slowly.

So, how is the value vs price comparison for A.M. RTW shoes?

I must say his lasts very nice. Especially the Hawksbill (special).

Anything by AM has always represented very good value. No question about it.
When shipping is added, it comes in at slightly more expensive than Enzo and Vass. But IMO, the overall detailing / finishing looks to be better. But it is still machine welted.
Certainly though, the product is light years superior to Crapward Green and Crapiano & Crapling. And much cheaper too.

His website prices are introductory prices. Wonder what becomes of the standard prices once that is rolled out.

I find my EG more comfortable (not finishing, not construction) than EBs.

My Vass is on its way now (hope they don't cock up).

Depends on what you look for / prioritise in shoes. If comfort is your main concern then every maker is on an (almost) even playing field.
The shittiest GYW maker might just have a last that agrees with your foot.
When it comes to comfort, it's a (nearly) completely random game of chance. With suppleness of the leather playing a part as well.

There's a pre-order for split toe derby, maybe that's the planned normal price? 700 euro before deducting VAT..

The split toe derby features a round closed stitch for the split toe seam, like the Dover. This requires a bit more hand work. And so the price is likely to be more expensive than his base price for his RTW.
His current price of test shoes (GYW) are about 350 Euros (includes last modification cost). His Argentum handwelted line base price is 750 Euros. His RTW should thus be priced right down the middle, so I think an estimate of 550 Euros is more or less accurate.

Hello guys. Young exec here too. Looking for an entry pair, no stranger to gyw shoes. Missed out on the et ed al sales couple weeks(?) back, would Allen Edmonds, meermin or even et ed al be a good entry pair? I'll be wearing on rotation since I'm not required to be on office wear daily.
