As what wiz suggested, do head to their stores to try!

Just tried both store and CNES is indeed softer and more sizes while EEA is slightly tighter and narrow. Can I know if tassel vs penny loafers which is btr for casual and formal occasion

I would stay away from any cemented shoes. I can't comment on Blake stitch as I have never own a pair before. You can read up some write ups regarding GYW, Blake stitch and Cemented shoes on the web.

I have a pair for about 8 months. So far so good. Leather is pretty soft(as compared to EEA). Pretty decent I would say

Blake stitch construction is a pretty good alternative to GYW especially in SG where the price of sending shoes for re-welting is costly. I've handled blake stitched shoes before, they are quite a fair bit lighter and more easily worn in because the sole isn't as thick as a GYW construction. It also tackles the problem of sole splitting that comes with so many cemented shoes. As what tegeus-Cromis mentioned a few posts before, topy them and they're gonna last

Are these any good compared to the CNES one? 189 seems like a good price.

It just launched, probably have to wait a bit for a review. The shoes are probably made in Vietnam which is the same as CNES which is a Vietnamese brand. Definitely will be of a different quality from the more established UK/European brands

Hi bros, I am planning to get a good pair of shoes either monkstrap/loafers for work and casual purpose. But i lean towards to loafers just because I love the looks. I saw a pair of CNES black loafers and I wonder if you guys think it is okay for work?

I understand that loafers are just casual shoes but it seems like with a black socks it kinda blends well.

As for the monk strap I am thinking of this:

But i do not know if this will be casual enough with jeans/chinos/ dress down day. Or even with trousers that are cuffed.

3 pairs

1) Brown balmoral oxford with straight captoe. No brogueing. This will function as the cornerstone of your shoe wardrobe. Same functionality as a conventional brown gooseneck captoe oxford, but I have always found balmoral oxfords particularly elegant. And it'll be a different design compared to the conventional black captoe oxford.

2) Black captoe oxford. Well, most Singaporean men still find that they want a pair a black shoes. Nothing wrong with that.

3) Adelaide oxford. Brogued. Brown. Just to add variety to the collection. Adelaides are a very balanced design imo.

If extended to 5-8 pairs

4) A "dress" chukka. Dark brown. 3 eyelets. Sleek last. Topied sole. Incredibly versatile. To wear with jeans, on travels (because you can wear it with casual and formal wear, reducing number of shoes to pack). And the topy allows you to wear it in rain and mildly wet weather.

5) A dress derby. Also dark brown. Smooth calf. 2 or 3 eyelets. Single leather sole. For days that you want a formal pair of shoes but oxfords bore you.

6) Brown double monks. Just for variety and for days you are just too irritated for laces.

7) Loafers in brown suede or calf. I prefer penny or string. Tassel loafers might be a little "dandy" for some. Just for dress down days, shorts, jeans.

8) A chunky ba***rd. Brown suede or grained calf, dainite soles, derby, semi or full brogue. For bad weather dress down days.
TM, is there a difference between “ brown captoe oxford” and “brown balmoral oxford with straight captoe”? Isn’t Balmoral oxford = oxford with a M-shaped toecap?

This is a balmoral oxford with straight captoe.

This is the "default" design for a brown captoe if it is otherwise unspecified. The design is quite different from a balmoral.

In both cases, just imagine the shoes with no brogueing.

The term "balmoral" refers specifically to a design of shoe / boot which has a long side seam that runs from vamp to heel.
