Sorry but those pairs look glued from the top down. The brown 2 eyelet derby is also blake stitched, which are at the bottom tier of quality shoe construction, just after the very bottom, cemented construction.

Good for fashion wear and toss-pairs, but if we're talking about Quality, then no.

Vietnam only 1-2 factories with the requisite GYW machine. And they dont take personal single orders unless you know the owner very very very well. The one in HCM does consignment for some Jap departmental stores so he is also full on his books and hardly ever does personal orders.

I should know, my SO is from Hanoi and yes I've taken a peek around local options :D

But for Indons, you can try Sagara. Their construction is top notched using handwelting. They are also more or less considered the top maker by local Indons in the know. Quality is of Magnitudes better than Santalum. Sleekness of last however can be an issue, but their boots are fab.

But of course, the biggest hurdle facing indon cordwainers are sources of quality leather which tend to hail from age old tanneries overseas.

Yes. They are. The Trần Quốc Lân shoes are welted. I'm taking a picture of my pair now.

The ones from Trần Quốc Lân.

Not exactly Goodyear Welt according to Sleeve Head. More like hand-welted since they are stitched by Vietnamese shoemaking elves.

Considering the price of a pair of overpriced local Batas, I'll take these anytime.

Wrong. They are blake stitched. Not Blade Rapid mind you but Blake.

Vietnamese "shoemaking elves" by the roadside use cemented (glue) construction. The Shops use Blake. The Big factories use Goodyear welt.

Btw bata also has a GYW line branded Ambassadors, around 80-120 sgd.

Ordered yours aldry? :D

Not so much chukkas (too short shaft) but ankle boots :p

Appreciate the extra support around the ankle, yet lighter than a full boot and dressy enough for formal wear when executed properly.

Fwiw I think Aldens chukkas are horrid. Fat and ungainly

The mind is willing but the wallet is weak.

Also, kid started childcare and taking shoes off/on would be a hassle with boots. In fact, thinking of donating a daiso shoe horn to the school (which I reckon won't see much use by anyone else anyway). :s13:

I wonder how many of us have shoe paraphernalias in office as well.

I have a plastic travel shoe horn with a pair of sneakers in office. The sneakers might have well gone rotten.. I haven't visited the gym, from office or otherwise, in the last 2 years. I think the shoe horn should still be doing fine though :D

Haha. I have a shoe horn and an additional pair of dress shoes in office.

Earlier I have contemplated about getting a pair of velvet slippers too for office use. Maybe too out-there. So i have shelved the idea for now.

Woooo! A maker got back to me and they indeed still retain an antique George Boot pattern and are willing to do it in Horween No. 4! :s12::s12::s12:

To say that I'm pleased would be an understatement. Time to commence intense research on Lasts and the MTO process as this will also be my first pair from Goulash-nistan :D

Thanks.

Any idea whats the shipping usually like?
Just tried to checkout the stands model, shipping to Singapore on their economy method was 80+ sgd, scheduled to arrive on 21 Oct. Total amount would be over 400 sgd which means gst will be applicable as well.

The best method would be to ship to someone in USA (free shipping) and bring it back lol

Hi all, need to ask for shoe recommendation again.
My budget is $200 max. I looked around herring but shoes either out of budget or too big (I tried church at taka the lady said my size is US6.5)

I went to archules site but they don't have my size eur 42..

Any other brands to recommend? J&M caught my eye but looks a bit old

Thanks a lot!

Such small size, I think this is the only option at that price http://www.custommade.com.sg
I am not sure how good is their quality and workman ship, but that price for MTO blake stitched shoes, you can't demand for the sky
