May be i am more tolerant, but these are not big concerns. Handmade products are never perfect. I have a bit of wrinkling on my shell chukka from EB too.

took a closer look at my EB wingtips. was quite disappointed. sigh.

the medallion on the left shoe was not aligned to the centre. it's more to the left.

then the left shoe, also got a bit of wrinkling at the side. the right shoe does not have it.

The "wrinkling" is acceptable to me, and could be due to the uneven strength in lasting the shoe.

IMHO the misaligned medallion is probably not something that should come from such an acclaimed maker as EB. In any case, I am never a fan of medallions and brogueing anyways...:)

Thanks all for your opinions/feedback. I will check with the Skoak team on this. Probably my expectation was too high after following the EB thread on styleforum.

Let's hope my cheaney wholecut does not have any such issue when it arrives tomorrow. Oh, was informed to pay $32 (GST) + $30 (admin fee) to the delivery man tomorrow.

Yeah...definitely not aligned.
Probably should be able to exchange as faulty item.

Damn, sad to see that coming from EB.... I would email them to check...

Wrinkling on shell?

Possible to share pics. would be interesting to see.

P.S CANCEL LAST. Realised you probably meant puckering along the seam.

Originally thought that the shell membrane itself was wrinking :s13:

Spoilt for choices with the brands available in the market:
1) Topy
2) Vibram
3) Continental
4) Brandless China rubber

Which is a better option among the 4 (Apparently not the 4th i reckon)? I was told that Continental is more durable and have been sticking with them since my 1st GYW shoes.
I am getting my 5th recently and wonder if Continental is really a better choice...

Whats your views?

Which cobbler do you go to that offers you such a wide selection?

Maybe 'pimpling' is the more appropriate word.
I will try to post photo when I am back in Singapore.

Just got my LLYR winston black.
so painful to wear the whole day, its so hard and the soles are slippery.I never own this kinda of shoes before.

Should I buy conditioner and apply to it before wearing it? Is that called the saphir cream polish or the renovateur? Seems like so many products to buy.

Nothingout of the normal breaking in process. I suffer 2 weeks of painful broken blisters popped and re-blistered over the healing blisters breaking in my shoes. YMMV.

Walk on rough surfaces rocks roads etc to roughen up your leather sole to gain better traction.

For starters get shoetrees shoe horn horsehair brush and cream polish (not wax) for your basic starter kit.

Damm good buy. Which range of GC are they?

Nothing a little brush buffing and cream wont solve

How was the store flogging off their seconds? Some sale or just a seconds corner

One trick is to use a rod (chopstick/pencil/pen) to set the crease on a new pair of shoes where your toe bends. (Press down with the rod where you want the crease to be and flex your feet).

Afterwards just keep on flexing the set crease to season it. Imo makes breaking in easier and avoids the random creasing that may occur (bad ones =pinched toes) when the flex is made without a guide.

Hi,

I shared your experience when I first wore my double monk. It took me quite a while to feel like wearing the shoe again. As someone mentioned in the thread, conditioner would not give you instant miracle.
