After some consideration, I think its safer to test wear and buy from brick and mortar shops. I went ahead for edetal Dunearn.

The only thing is that I am not sure why this model is also charged at $349 and not $300 as indicated in their website. The nice lady says that it will fall under the remastered series, thats why...

I duno why, I've seen their re-mastered series... leather still creases like paper as per your photo. Then you compare to their primature series (they still have some left on shelves), you can see the differences.

Ya, the actual shoe itself has the creases too. I am suspecting either it has been test worn a few times, or its really the leather itself. I don't recall seeing the creases on my Mounbatten and Nicol when first bought...

Their website i believe perpetually doesnt work for their RTW line. I shared previously about this price increase with a bit of personal advice if u look back to within a month's posts.

Do give a review on fit n quality when u have worn the shoes a few times! Enjoy

Ya, I am aware of the increase. Which is why I double checked on their website, and saw a few other models of the increase and not this particular one. When I was testing it in the store and asked the price, I was a little shocked when they say its $349 too. Of course as a curious customer, I asked and was given the reply on the change of better material etc etc.

But I told myself this is meant to be a birthday present / pb present, so just forget it bah.

Agree that Alden is best bought only when you are able to try. Not just because of the lasts but also due to the US-sizing system which making conversion from UK or EU doubly complicated.

The American may see it the other way. Lol

Are there any other shoe brands that are similar in quality and price to the Kempt range of Edetal? I found them pretty comfortable but they don't have much stock atm over at Millenia. Looking for 2 pair, blacks and browns for work.

I presume leather-soled shoes?

If your heels already have a half or quarter rubber-insert, that should be adequate. Maybe you want to topy/vibram the forefoot area of the leather soles instead.

A layer of rubber will be added to your sole. Topy & Vibram are actually brand names and you can add them at many shoe repair shops like Shukey/Mister Minit. I added a Topy to my shoes. Probably costs $30+

My 2 cents:

To begin with, there is no place for 'uncomfortable' dress shoes. If the shoes aren't comfortable, they should be ditched (figuratively, u can put up on ebay of course), or suck it up and hope the shoes season up in time to come.

Of course, one cannot expect the same level of comfort in your dress shoes compared with sneakers or slippers. Else you should go for the hush puppies and geox etc, which I believe is not the case for you.

Finally down to actually answering your question: IMHO, I don't think it's an appropriate practice, regardless of gender. I believe some Japanese companies have such a culture amongst the guys but otherwise it's very rare amongst guys as compared to ladies.

I observed that at some point over the last decade or slightly further back, this practice somehow crept into the office culture amongst the ladies. As with many things, habits uncorrected over time become acceptable simply because 'no one pointed out they were wrong'.
