I've dealt with meermin and I got two of their linea maestro shoes. IMO, they are about the level of Crockett and jones bench grade. I've got one from the classic line as well but it's one in rapello suede. So I can't say much for the leather in the classic line, however, I must say I'm quite surprised that you say it's better than herring. I purchased a herring guildford that I returned cos the leather felt plasticky and very artificial. The LM models that I got surpass Cheney and Allen Edmonds in terms of quality and construction.

It's smooth. Draw an outline of yr feet and send it to them and they'll figure out the size for you. I didn't do this and I currently have one 7uk that's half a size too big for me. I wasn't able to exchange cos i actually added vibram so I'm contemplating whether to sell or wear with an insole.

You pay via PayPal and it always reaches me within 5 biz days. Get their shoe trees. It's not cedar but high quality beechwood.

Don't think I can help you with that as I usually request my shoe maker to make a belt from the exact same leather that is used to cut my shoe.


Most reputable shoe makers usually offer this service so...

Try looking at departmental stores. I saw lighter brown belts at John Little when buying one to match my Rockport shoe.

Take a gander at onlybrown.com, which stocks plenty of (as its name would imply) brown belts, along with other brown leather accessories. Local enterprise that sources leather goods from Europe. Plus Kelvin is an excellent guy to deal with - he sent me a wrong order once and came down to my void deck the next day to do a swap.

I can't tell cos for the classic model, I bought the suede. I only purchased the lines maestro models for the calf leathers and I'm not disappointed. I have Allen Edmonds and most of them say the quality and finishing is equivalent for both brands. I would put AE slightly above herring IMO. But then again it's really hard to measure.

I'd honestly say try meermin cos at the $200 price point, you can't get a better shoe than that. Service wise, you'll be impressed by them.

Would just like to chime in on the excellent service that Herring Shoes provided me recently in the past month.

Had a defect in the heel of my Herring Richmonds after 6 months of wear, and they replaced it with a new pair of shoes and refunded my shipping costs as well. They even allowed me to select a different model, so I selected a pair of Herring shoes made by Barker (Herring Belgravia) and offset the difference with some of the shipping costs.

If you are gonna go for the classic line, I suggest getting the olfe last and size down by one. But it's really best to send in an outline of your foot with measurements and ask for advice. Recommendations from pepe and Jose are pretty accurate.
