Btw, I just went to Bata and saw the Ambassador range. Looks like pretty darn good entry-level shoes at $99!

Saw those too. Pretty decent construction for the price. Though, they could have done a better job at measuring/cutting the leather. The leather between the vamp and the tongue (below the last lace) creases weirdly upon lacing.

Yes! Church's shoes is under Prada. I also saw them selling at the Prada space outlet store in Florence. The price starts from 200 euros +-, pretty okay. So if anybody is going there can keep a lookout.

Not too sure about prices in SG, personally find their staff there very snobbish... Not inviting at all. But if didnt rem wrongly, prices at Church's store in Europe starts from 300 + euros.

Yeah, its decent enough for me as i dont wear it everyday and its more value for money than those normal departmental store brands since they are also around 100+ price range. i find my Church's shoes very comfortable even without socks, so thats good enough for me. but then again, i am not a shoe expert, haha so dont quote me.

I think your style is more inclined to the fit, comfort & value while not compromising on quality. I guess your preference is towards the understated designs?

as for berluti, that shape and flexibility is impossible to achieve with a welted construction. i consider lightness and pliability to be important in hot and humid countries. not saying that berluti is a good choice, would never buy from taka...

Maybe they have improved. Recently I went in just to take a look and the staff all seemed very friendly. Helped me out when I said I wanted to try out some of the shoes.

Interesting that you mentioned rain and shell in the same sentence. Admittedly, I am not a shell person, but I do use shell (and deerskin) as rain shoes.

Problem is not all shell are equal, some reacted nicely with rain, some just get water spots but clean up nicely, and some get perm bumps that never go away. But if you get a pair in the first 2 categories, they are A LOT hardier than calf in rain (if you get past the funky lumps and plastic look).

Bad news Edwin increased his RTW series to 300. And only upon preorder. So technically is MTO.

At this price range can top up a little for M brand (not sure how to spell) which is benchmade quality.

Buy Church in SG is mad prices. And not even handmade quality. With this price range I rather buy the V brand.

DW although its very popular among celebrties is frowned upon due to the quality of the workmanship. I guess celebrities are too rich to care about having lasting shoes or enduring style.

From my experience corrected grain is very smooth and looks plasticky after polishing. Full grain however is wrinkled when shined looks super glossy and shiny. Sometimes can see mosquito bite or cuts for cheaper full grain on belts.

Having said that there are some nicer corrected grain which are quite porous and take a decent shine when polished. Not all corrected grain are made equal.
