It's called poor quality control.

Hais. Im just gonna be condemned for whatever that i wear on my body, even the hush puppies socks & underwear which i have been wearing everyday for the past many years. $20 a box what to expect? Can wear one year already good enough.

Those brands like Rockport, Ecco and Clarks are really comfortable at first wear. But the issue is they are not meant to be resoled, once wear out can be landfill. I would only buy if I really like the design and the price is reasonable, ie comparable to overseas pricing.

U must wear every expensive shoes. Not many shoes priced under 100 can be resoled.
The cost to resole is expensive.
Ie
Those cheap Johnson Murphy may cost just as much to resole as to buy a new shoe.

Johnson Murphy, I not aware of this brand but I go see the price list on the web is 250+ for dress shoes. Top up a bit can go for Edwin RTW. I bought 100+ dress shoes in shopping center during sale and in old uncle shoe shop, which are possible resole.

A quality dress shoe, the leather upper can last for decades. Resoling is not as expensive as you think. If you replace the full sole of course will be expensive, a lot of workmanship even if machine stitch. no need to replace the entire sole for many years if taken care of.

What will wear out first is either the front half sole or the heel portion depending on how you walk (gait), the material, etc. you can prolong a leather sole buy replacing with rubber sole/topy/vibram or use metal taps.

I am not rich but I know how to bargain hunt like a real cheapskate.

Maybe the socks and innerwear quality is different from the clothes. Which I find very abysmal quality. Shoes wise they used to be so lasting and so comfortable, nowadays they only retain the comfortable qualities :(

Hi Petia, where do you put on your heel/toe taps? I've asked a number and all have rejected me - maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

I'm just looking for a tin of regular Kiwi wax in very light brown or red. NTUC only sells black, neutral and brown. Cheapo wax gogogo...

Some neighborhood 2 dollar shop may have the light brown, dark brown but never seen the mahogany yet. I use neutral for lighter brown shoes, even the light brown kiwi is quite dark so that is used for dark brown shoes.

Or else have to use colored creams and finish off with neutral. Just becareful of neutrals as they are harsh and capable of stripping off layers of old polish or cream. I learnt from te hard way and had to redo the multiple layers of polish for the spit shine look.

Yes. From Vietnam. My friend station there says you can get similar quality shoes for USD90 to USD150, MTO somemore. Compared to sgd300 for RTW for Ed's shoes.

Seriously? Like where in the west? Singapore can't even find a decent range of kiwi wax polishes? Omg?
