Loding VS Meermin, what's the consensus? Seems like Loding isn't that popular on Styleforum and Askandy. Quick google search doesn't churn out much results.

On the forums, Loding is regarded as entry level French brand, perhaps slightly above Bexley, from the little info that is available. Meermin is one of Style Forummers' darlings, so I don't think you will find many or any comments in favour of Loding over Meermin.

In Asia, they have 1 shop in Hong Kong along Wellington Street which I went to take a look. Loding shoes are generally of very slim/sleek lasts, bordering on being pointy. If you have normal/slim feet, that's fine. If you have wider feet, then not so suitable.

Prices in the HK shop work out to around SGD400.. pricing premium not unlike Septieme Largeur in Singapore.

Loding also carries accessories, shirts, ties, driving loafers.

I've bought a pair of oxfords from herring (by barker, not loakes though). Shoes are sturdy, relatively thick leather but rather stiff. Took a long time to break before it feels comfortable.

I've gotten the Edetal Kempt oxfords earlier this year. Comfort is good because of the blake stitch but leather creases quite badly. Don't get that sort of creasing on the herring.

Just received my Edetal double monk (GW welt) and have not worn it yet. Leather looks and feel better quality than the Kempt but shall reserve judgement on other aspects (especially the creasing) until I have worn it a few times.

You can try Loake 1880 at Robinsons Orchard (former Heeren) and Edetal at their shops to experience and see for yourself which is a better shoe for you. Personally I have wide feet and Loake Capital last is quite suitable for wider feet even in F fit. I was considering between Loake and Edetal for a pair of double monk and eventually decided on Edetal because it was more of a 'fun' shoe buy which is not for frequent wear, so save up on that $50 difference.

Upping to $400 can consider cheaney or meermin LM line (depends on FX too)

It's natural for leather to crease. Sometimes it's attributed to the fit of your shoe but doesn't necessarily mean better or worse leather quality.

It's all about aesthetics and peace of mind.

Deeper creasing makes the shoes appear older, very much like wrinkles on your face. Creases also indicate possible areas of material failure. While creases may not actually result in imminent leather cracking, as you and the shoe snob blog have pointed out, it will definitively worry the owner.

Am aware creasing is unavoidable and also that fit plays a part. Just highlighting that I experience excessive creasing on a particular pair.

I own 4 pairs of cap toe oxfords and this pair with excessive creasing is in fact the least worn pair. Hence I feel the need to highlight it.

I hope u tried the shoes in both instances since you were physically at the shops (a rarity for meermins especially).

Which one fits u better? Frankly when it comes to shoes, fit is the number 1 consideration. Other factors like styling, quality etc are of course important but immaterial if the shoe doesn't fit well to begin with.

Assuming u wear both brands comfortably, speaking with no direct experience but pure internet knowledge, the meermin LM would probably have a better leather quality.

And S$476 for Loding shoes listed online at EUR160 is a real rip-off no matter how much premium u place on getting to try on shoes and getting shop assistance.

I'm looking to buy a pair of burgundy shoes with a budget of 200 bucks, could someone recommend me some brands or models that are around that range?

I browsed through quite briefly and the brands and models thrown around are pretty hefty in terms of price. Would appreciate inputs for this thanks!

The New Rey cap toes from Meermin is from the Linea Maestro range which is EURO100 more expensive than their classic line, looked significantly better than Loding shoes.

Hello gents, great thread, I'm kinda late to the party!

I've had this pair of Loake Shoemaker for a month+, rotating it with another pair.
Super comfy right out of the box!
I'm pleased with how the crease lines have formed...

DIY stick-on taps using 3M anti-slip adhesive tape bought from Amazon. It has a rough rubberized feel to it.
With the exposed leather sole, I do feel irritated about going into washrooms with wet floors
