when u order on their webbie, the size listed on the product page at the drop down list is the UK size or the US size?? I'm assuming it is the UK size since it is an England based website but just wanted to make sure... anyone knows?

and anyone ordered the loake rothschild before? is the narrow toe last too tight??

Uk size. U can ask herring customer service on sizing issues. They are quite prompt and friendly. May be helpful u measure your feet too. Length and widest part across ball of your foot.

May I ask the experts here what is cement construction ah?wanted to try a pair from Archules but then they said theirs is cement construction not sure what is it? Is it what we see on normal shoes?
If it's as per normal like hush puppies type I dun mind since it's rather cheap and can jus wear for a yr or 2 to change, but if it's worse then not sure worth it or not...

It's glue. Cement just sounds cooler - easier to bluff people.

Nothing can be worse than glue. So if you are comparing to hush puppies (glued), then I say go for Archules.

I've gone to Jermyn street in London already, must say the C&J's are pretty comfy and good looking, service is great too.(first time i had salespeople helping me with my shoes on) sadly its out of my price range..

Any other recommendations you guys personally have? I wanted to look at meermin too but I probably won't be going Madrid..

I've gone to Jermyn street in London already, must say the C&J's are pretty comfy and good looking, service is great too.(first time i had salespeople helping me with my shoes on) sadly its out of my price range..

Any other recommendations you guys personally have? I wanted to look at meermin too but I probably won't be going Madrid..

What's your budget looking like? If on a "low" budget, can check out Bexley and Loding in Paris. If ur itinerary is free and easy and u really have time to spare, then make a trip to northhampton where the UK shoes manufacturers are based for their factory sales. May pick up some good seconds at a bargain.

Some members here are pretty familiar with UK shopping scene so hope they will chip in if they see your message.

Quick question, can a blake stitched shoe be topy'ed/vibram'ed on the sole? Just thinking of how i can prolong the sole since resoleing for Ed's kempt collection might not be possible.

I just sent my kempt in for vibram during lunchtime. The shopkeeper looked at the shoes, flexed the sole abit and told me to collect end of day. So i think can be done? Haha

I read on SF that topy/vibram is highly recommended specifically for blake stitched shoes.

The reason given is that since the stitch from the outsole leads directly to the insole, water can travel from the bottom to the inside of the shoes via the threads.

For me, I topy every leather soled shoe I have. This is the tropics after all - safety first.

Definitely ok. I have 4 pairs of Ed's Blake stitched shoes that I've vibram'd. No problems.

Btw, you went to the correct C&J shop in London. The service at the arcade is nowhere near the one located at Jermyn Street.

Pretty generous budget you have there for a student.

Wholecuts probably look more refined but cap toes are the "standard" formal shoes for business purpose. All in black by the way. Personally would think cap toes to be more appropriate in your situation. Explore different colours and designs as u progress on.
