I dropped by Diamond Walker at Orchard Gateway today to take a look and also to check out the 20% offer for the vouchers.

Was quite suprised by the price of their shoes. Anyone has the same feeling?

For a low cut shoe with hand welted soles, patina from Korean patina artist, it will set you back by $1750. If done by their Italian artist it would cost a whopping $2450.

Frankly, I wasn't expecting it to be that expensive even though I had the impression that it would be on the higher side. In relative terms.... Septieme Largeur now looks a lot more affordable (not that I think that their pricing is good, given the mark up compared to their online store pricing)

Would it be possible to get something from berluti or corthay at that price?

Quite sure one can get a bespoke (ie personal shoe last) done by a more modest shoemaker for that price? And sending to an established patina artist like say dandy shouldn't set one back by more than $400?

How much did it cost to have Dandy patina the boots from Ed(inc shipping both ways)? I remember some of the guys sent in their boots to Dandy, can't remember who.

Actually their bespoke shoes start from $549... IIRC you can still customize/mix & match within a certain range of colours and leathers within the price range with rubber soles. They have a few grades of calf skin to choose from... very wide range of colours and textures.

They told me that patina is best done on their best grade Venecia grade leather which is like off-white colour and I felt the leather sample... very soft. That leather is not cheap.

I think you mean their French artist... Landry Lacour. His work is damn awesome looking at the DW FB page done for quite a few DW customers... very tempting but really out of my league (and my fiancee will KILL me).

Does Septieme Largeur do bespoke meh? I was told they only do ready to wear shoes. I looked around and DW is still the most affordable bespoke shoe maker around in Singapore and quality is good too. Just my opinion.

I'm very satisfied with my casual shoes made there and my next dress shoes aka wedding shoes will probably be made there too. I have wide + thick feet and my DW pair is the most comfortable leather shoes I've owned (besides my old Hush Puppies but it was really damn old uncle style eeks!).

I can't comment on the fit of the shoes as I've not gotten any from them before. Do they actually fashion a last for you from scratch or do they modify their existing lasts to achieve that fit? Is there a difference in these 2 methods in terms of comfort of the final product? I don't know about these so just want to learn more about it as well. I'm just curious about their term of bespoke in comparison to what Ed used to offer.

They modify existing lasts and don't charge customers for making lasts, storage of personal last and making personalised fitting shoes.

Fit is good for me for my first pair... and believe me... I can be a damn tough 'imzhim' S.O.B when it comes to such things that I buy!

i feel that they are pretty well constructed, and their colors are vibrant. just not too sure on the comfort level of the soles..

Quite disappoint with the leather. Though these are goodyear welted and come with vibram morflex sole (can be resole just like redwing boot), but these don't feel 'solid' enough. They are very light.

I bought mine from Bata! Cheap and good. They used to have a nanotech one a year ago but then the last time I bought a few months ago, it was their own house brand.

Is there a way to tell when leather needs reconditioning BEFORE it starts cracking? And if it has started cracking, is there a way to restore it to pre-cracked status?

Also what types of shoes are good for walking long distances? Sneakers/running shoes, what else?
